It’s Hub Comics’ annual Dark Knight on Dark Night Batman art show! Come to our opening reception on Saturday, December 10th from 6 to 8pm and see Batman-inspired works by local artists! If you miss this fun event (Snacks! Soda! People talking about Batman!), the art is on display through January.

I curate this show every year and seeing all the Batman art makes me as happy as a little kid on Christmas (whose parents were not murdered in an alley).

Poster for Dark Knight on a Dark Night 2016

The experimental, no-outline technique started as color for the more traditional outline version. Watercolor look comes from pasting high-resolution textures into the color flats, then adjusting in Photoshop. Side-by-side, I like this one better.

Batgirl vs. Joker 2016 (Sketches, Reference)

For this year’s Dark Knight on a Dark Night exhibit at Hub Comics. The annual event highlights Batman-inspired works by local artists, held near the winter solstice. It’s my excuse to draw Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. I have the honor of drawing this year’s poster, and am torn between two options:

Option A: Simple profile shot of Batgirl jumping off a roof. No historical tricks, it’s probably better for a poster.

Option B: Based the cover of Batman Family Giant #9, but uses the 1960s Marvel cover design. The female Joker is based on cosplayer Kseniya’s 2014 photo set on Deviant Art. She works in Eastern Europe under the name Dark Incognito.
