BANDS YOU SHOULD KNOW: Basic Vacation
"I Believe"
At age 27, Artist and Musician Harana Zhang is well on her way to establishing a solid presence in the music industry. The successful model and pre-med student turned soulful siren, exudes a free-spirit and fresh energy in all of her artistry. A Chinese native, Harana moved to the United States in 1997. Still young and bright, she began to find her own illumination among the lights of New York City. After high school, she studied Health Science as a pre-med student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando where she received her Bachelor’s. It was during this time that she found and discovered her passion for music. Above is Harana’s cover of ‘Get Lucky' by Daft Punk.
What do you have planned for the future with your music career?
I am currently working on my EP along with gathering inspiration from recreating some of the most popular songs out, and I am constantly surrounding myself with like minded creatives. My first EP will release in 2014 with all original songs. With the release of my new EP a mini tour will be lined up, and hopefully I will be performing in a city near you.
Top 3 influences/inspirations and why?
I am constantly inspired by the art of other creative beings. Whether if it’s a song, a dance, or a piece of painting - they all have been at some point a spark for my song writing, instrument learning, or adventuring into something completely new with my music. The song writing development part came started developing when I was going through different stages in life. As they say, song writing is the easiest when you are going through hardships. It’s another insight about life I learned that the struggles we go through in life can be viewed as either a nightmare or an inspiration.
Advice to anyone wanting to further themselves in the music industry?
My advice to anyone wanting to further themselves in the music industry is to follow the music and the rest will come through. I believe in the law of attraction and as long we put forth good intentions towards something we want, the universe will bring what we manifested to us. We need to be multi-taskers, while we are working on advancing our music career we should always grind with other creative projects.
What first triggered your interest in starting a career in music?
I knew I wanted to build a career in music when I started playing my songs to my friends over the past two years and they would say things like “You really should get these songs out there, it has a unique sound and I think people will like your music.” I went through a year of just focusing on getting better at the guitar, learning new songs to cover and the next thing I started to notice was that I was surrounded with other musicians, creatives, and goal getters. Over the last year I have developed so much more than I would have ever had on my own.
Artist Spotlight: EverSay
You want another female vocalist in a rock band? You got it. We recently chatted with leading lady Blake Dawson of the band EverSay. She shows her dynamic range in their hit single “This Time”, and is truly someone to watch. Here’s what she had to say!
Give us a rundown about EverSay:
Drinking from the same well as some of Rock's most legendary bands, EverSay calls Middleburg, FL home. With powerhouse vocals, chugging guitars, and intense drumming, they're in the business of rock and roll. Their self-titled EP is fresh off the press, available on iTunes and Spotify. EverSay spent this past year touring the United States, introducing their unique sound from East to West coast, including Hawaii. EverSay is fronted by dynamic, female vocalist, Blake Dawson and produced by Ronnie Winter from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
What do you have planned for the future? Any new releases? Shows? Tours?
We just finished a full year of touring the entire United States. We also filmed our official music video for our single "This Time", this past year in New York City. The more known places we've toured include Nashville, TN, Las Vegas, New York City, Los Angeles, Honolulu, HI, and many more. We are taking the first part of 2014 to finish writing and recording our full length album. And, of course we plan to tour that album soon after releasing it.
Where can you be found?
EverSay can be found on iTunes, Facebook, Spotify, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. We are also on PureVolume.com. Check us out!
Is there anything about your band that you want your fans to know?
If there is anything that we want our fans to know, it is that we love them oh so very much and that we wouldn't be able to do what we do without them. Our goal is to connect and relate with as many people as we can, to empower them with inspiration from our lyrics, stories of our own, and to touch as many hearts as we can with our music. Fans have come up to us after shows and have emailed us telling us how our music has helped strengthen them and helped them through tough times. That is the ultimate reward. That is one of the reasons why we make music.
Tom Odell (who could possibly pass as a Hanson brother) did an amazing rendition of Katy Perry’s single ‘Roar’. His cover is perfection as he adds some much needed soul & good vibes to the track. Tom also released an album entitled Long Way Down. We highly recommend taking a listen.
AFI released their most recent album, Burials, this past summer and their first video from this album was "I Hope You Suffer’" AFI’s pop-meets-goth-meets-new wave sound is in full power on Burials. They have reinvented themselves with this new album and fans are still raving about how incredible it is! This was their first album in almost over four years, which is filled with fast paced, quick and vibrant energy compared to other, latter-era AFI albums. The entire band played to their best work throughout Burials, but also tried some new things which resulted in positive feedback. Listen and watch "I Hope You Suffer" and get a feel of AFI’s new sound!
This past May, Nylo released her music video for 'Fool Me Once', which is also featured on her new mixtape Indigo Summer. Chicago born and raised, she is now residing in Los Angeles and working on her upcoming mixtape, Indigo Rose. You don’t want to miss out on Nylo, she’s got dope artists like Nas praising her and even hosting the launch of her mixtape! Look out for her music on soundcloud, and expect to hear about her very soon. Nylo’s got incredible talent and she may very well be the next big thing.
Justin Bieber is making a comeback by releasing a new single every Monday in December. His new album Journals and movie Believe was released on Christmas Day. His first music video out of all his recent singles is ‘All That Matters' featuring the stunning model, Caitlin Russo. Bieber has a new approach in his recent work, his sound and lyrics have matured in a way that was almost unexpected. He’s got the ladies swooning all over again, but this time he’s reached and pinpointed to a much more mature, older audience. See what Justin has transformed to and hype his recent music video!
Jon Bellion is a singer/rapper with an independent label, VMG (Visionary Music Group). Between catchy melodies, samples, and a wonderful combination of singing and rapping (with a stand out style at that), Jon is certainly an artist to watch out for.
We recently had the opportunity to ask Jon a few questions regarding his music and career. Look out for the interview in the next coming month!
