sec.1 - juniper's backround/childhood + how she ended up in KATSEYE
001. family.
juniper grew up as an only child.
she comes from a relatively small, private family, located in zurich, having no siblings and very few cousins.
juniper was a shy kid, keeping to herself.
when june was nine, she was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd), but her parents ceased to do anything to help. she continues to struggle with compulsions/ fear of contamination.
her mother was 26 when she had ottie.
her father was 38.
002. childhood.
growing up, juniper struggled with high anxiety and depression, though her parents often ignored it.
as a kid, juniper often felt unloved or like a burden to her parents, though she didn't know why. it wasn’t until she turned eleven when she asked, and her parents told her about what really happened when she was a kid.
june was supposed to be a twin.
her sibling didn't make it.
her parents shared they tried to care for her when she was young, but they often described feeling like they were– in their words, “pretending to love someone they can’t.”
this shattered juniper. not only was she supposed to have a sibling, but somehow, something went wrong, and only she survived.
as june grew older, she drifted impossibly further away from her parents. she ate alone in her room, stayed at school until they kicked her out at night, and got a job at twelve.
all to stay out of the house.
juniper worked for an older couple. obviously, there wasn’t much a twelve year old could apply for, so when she saw an advert on a telephone pole that said “help wanted” she used the family phone and called right away.
the owners of said dance studio needed help cleaning. simple stuff, sweeping, wiping the mirrors, to juniper, It sounded great. they had no children of their own, so having her around and on young legs was a big help. they grew close fast. she often stayed after hours, helping the couple make and serve dinner. often, carmen would notice juniper dancing when she thought no one was looking, and one day asked if she wanted to take lessons instead of earning money. juniper was reluctant at first, but eventually, the offer was too hard to resist. she showed natural talent almost immediately.
fast forward two years, juniper's parents find out about her dance lessons. they forbid her from going back.
heartbroken, juniper snuck out, planning on leaving a letter to carmen and michel explaining and thanking them for everything, but unfortunately for her, they see her and let her explain through tears. carmen was especially mad, refusing to let june's dreams die out. she gifted juniper a used phone and all the money she would've made for the two years she took free dance lessons. juniper tried to decline. carmen insisted.
003. how did she get here.
juniper starts posting on social media– dancing, singing, the whole nine yards, and she attracts a decent audience. she stays in touch with carmen and michel behind her parents' back, and one day, a recruiter from DA messages her. she doesn't believe it, but after some talking and planning, juniper asks her parents. they hesitate, but eventually agree, thinking she’ll eventually fail. she happily flies out to los angeles, barely knowing english, and shines immediately.
however, during the last few months of training before the finale, carmen called to inform her that michel passed away due to a sudden heart attack. juniper is devastated and wants to fly back to zurich, but carmen tells her to stay, not wanting her to lose her love for dancing, and the spot in the group in turn.
when juniper debuts, carmen flies out to los angeles for the finale, while juniper own parents skip it. carmen is the mom june never had, and she is so grateful for her.
juniper moves in with dani and manon, and the grind for KATSEYE begins.
004. the conflict.
(fast forward to early june 2025)
juniper gets a call from an unknown number late friday. she doesn't pick up, she’s learned not too.
they call again.
juniper ignores it again, thinking someone has a wrong number, but this time, they leave a voicemail.
curious, june clicks the transcription, skimming through the script half-heartedly, until she reads the words that change her forever.
rain - juniper would sit and watch the rain all day if she could, the 'patter patter' against the windows, the dark clouds, all of it comforts her. hell– even the smell of rain makes june happy, she loves going outside at the end of a storm, looking up at the sky and feeling the last droplets of rain land on her hands. much to dani's protest, however, who's regularly reminding her she'll catch a cold, though she always ends up sleeping in juniper's bed anyway, convinced her warmth 'scares germs away.'
animals - any shape and kind, juniper's a fan. she likes spending a weekend a month at the local dog shelter, socializing and feeding the dogs. the staff know her by name, shes there so often.
funky jewelry - this one loves a good chunky bracelet.
fortnight - juniper and megan are rivals...in fortnight. theyll play all night, constant "one more game's!" can be heard at three in the morning.
kindles - you'll often find juniper curled up on her bed, surrounded by blankets and unresponsive to the outside world. the culprit? her kindle. stressed? june's on her kindle. bored? kindle. happy? kindle. manon likes joking that if juniper never finds love, she should just marry her kindle.
potty humor - don't even try saying the word poo or fart around june. her and lara are the same that way– often triggering a chain reaction of laughs until their stomachs hurt and their eyes gloss over.
102. dislikes.
doing hair - everyone is doomed to a matt in their heads every once in a while, right? not juniper. she wakes up every morning with a nest on her head, tangled to the max. she's a knot magnet. she dosen't dare fall asleep with her hair up– it'll take her half the morning untangling it. manon, however, loves doing june's hair, and fortunately for her, juniper's got a fat soft spot for the older girl.
coffee - hot take, but this girl can't stand coffee. the smell, the taste, she can't find one redeeming quality about it.
artificial intelligence - juniper's screen time fell off the deep end when 'fruit love island' was trending. she cannot stand AI, just the thought of it puts a sour taste in her mouth.
tight clothes - unless she's preforming, you will almost never catch juniper in tight clothes. she lives in sweats.
movie - a dogs purpose (all the girls cried when she showed them this movie)
song - landslide
katseye song - 'tonight i might'
style - baggy/streetwear
music artist'(s) - doja cat, the trammps, billie eilish, LE SSERAFIM
202. juniper's fears.
abandonment - partially due to her past and her parents, june is incredibly afraid of abandonment, and struggles with negative thought loops that like to trick her into believing she'll never be anyone's first choice.
throwing up - since juniper was little, throwing up has been one of her biggest and hardest to shake fears, leaving her in tears when stomach flu's went around in the winter when she was ten, and frozen in place at the mention of vomit at eighteen. through pure willpower, june has been able to avoid throwing up for seven years, the last time she was stomach sick being when she was eleven. when she was at the height of her fear, juniper developed an eating disorder for twelve long months, irrationally believing anything she ate would have her throwing up.
large crowds - somewhat connected to her other fears, large groups of crowds can be a massive stressor for juniper. at the airport? the girls will lose sight of her, leaving her alone in the middle of the terminal. at a fan event? the one eyekon she spends extra time talking to will end up having some sort of bug, leading june to puke her brains out for the remainder of the week.
