Update on the Huion 540
So I came back from a long lunch and woke my laptop up from sleep to find that my Huion 540 didn’t work - the LED lit up when I put the pen to the drawing area, but the cursor didn’t move at all.
But this was quite easily fixed - I just unplugged and plugged in the USB cable again, and it worked fine. Pressure sensitivity was alright as well.
One slightly irritating thing is that I actually have to sign into my laptop’s user account before I can use the tablet, so I can’t use it to replace a mouse entirely. It also makes my user assistance keyboard sprout up on my screen like a confused plant. I’ve no idea why though, seeing that I don’t even know how to enable it usually…
But these are mild quirks at best - I mean, the tablet still works nicely with FireAlpaca, and I’ve been very happy considering how cheap it is in comparison with other tablets. Additionally, I bought it from Huion itself (Huion has a Qoo10 store, for any interested Singaporeans out there), so there’s no suspicion about being sold a rip-off haha.
Edit: Hmm, okay I left the pen on the tablet for a while when trying to google alpacas, and when I picked it up again and drew in firealpaca, it gave me blotches, which I understand plagues some users? Clicking one of the keys on the pen got rid of that problem for me though, so if it happens to you, I guess you could try that out.
Edit2: If the clicking doesn’t work for you, you can try turning the pen on and off again by clicking the button at the top of the pen.
First post: The Huion 540
Hi guys, I just got a Huion 540, and I figured it might be good to post what I can do with it, as well as how well it handles. This is mainly because I googled this tablet in order to decide if I should get it or not, and there were so little reviews about it??? I found a LOT about the Huion 420, but very little about the 540 and its capabilities.
So far, I’m really quite liking it. It’s an okay size (not too big) for me, because I’m used to operating in small places and drawing on small sketchpads (A4 is already pretty big for me). The pressure sensitivity works nicely in FireAlpaca too (which is freeware for drawing and sketching and painting etc and is very nice to use).
It comes with a pen operated by AAA batteries, and you can click the end to turn it on and off.
When installing, make sure to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS given in the instruction manual, because it’s really instinct to just plug it in when you get it, but actually you have to install the driver first, restart your computer, THEN plug it in and have fun.
Also, for the tablet, I covered it with plastic to protect the surface, because I’m quite paranoid about scratching it after seeing my sister’s old Wacom Graphire Sapphire, which was covered in scratches (and this is why you don’t give tablets with pressure sensitivity or are relatively expensive to kids - unless they know how to make full use of the pressure function - because I remember none of us knew that you could draw lightly on the tablet). I didn’t come up with this method by myself though. I googled how to protect drawing tablets, and found this tumblr post: http://pictureacloud.tumblr.com/post/114118880307/how-to-protect-your-pen-tablet-graphics-tablet which I think was pretty smart??
So yeah. I’m gonna fiddle around with my 540 a little more, and maybe see how it goes.
