Forever can never be long enough for me to feel like I've had long enough with you
It’d been on Bruce’s mind for far too long. In some form or another, it’d been on his mind since that night when he’d brought Wade tacos and was met with a proposal. And sure, that was a joke at least, he was pretty sure it was a joke, though even now, he wasn’t 100% certain of that. But it was still something that stuck with him, always there in the back of his mind (and sometimes much closer to the front.)
Then they moved in together and got past the mess with SHIELD. They had started working towards getting Wade’s bakery open together, Bruce’s name signed along side Wade’s in securing funding. They’d adopted cats and even talked about one day having kids even if Bruce was still terrified of the idea.
In every way that counted, Wade was already it for Bruce. Sure, they were young, really young and it wasn’t like either had much experience with anyone else, but try as he might, Bruce couldn’t imagine his life without Wade.
So, even though the ring strung around his neck was probably stolen and most likely given in jest, Bruce had spent several hours a day for over a week in one of Tony’s labs, working to reproduce on the the rarest metals in the world. It took a lot of work, but he’d managed to make the small ring of vibranium. He anodized celtic knot work like the green on his own ring, only in red around the band.
Then, Bruce waited until Wade had left one day and set to work on the cake. Several colors of fondant rolled and cut and shaped wrapped up the cake to look like a platter of tacos, crunchy and soft, even cups of soda. Four packet shaped pieces were laid out across the cake: Mild, Hot, Fire and Verde. Each had a single word spelling out, “Will you marry me?”
It was all so completely absurd and over the top, but Bruce couldn’t keep from smiling as he put it all together. He’d secured the ring in a tiny black box and waited patiently for Wade to come home.
Wade finally stumbled home after a day of looking at places to hold his little shop. The idea of a hole-in-the-wall place was looking really good to him too; it would be small and easy to manage. Not too many people would be able to crowd a place like that and it would be more personal. He liked personal. He found three places that seemed nice enough but he was going to drag Bruce around to them later before he made a decision.
He pushed open the door and stepped inside, kicking off his shoes as he closed the door. "Bruce-y! I'm home!" He moved through the house and found him in the kitchen. His eyes immediately zoned in on the cake.
"Wow, this is cool," he smiled and stepped closer. "If I didn't have such a good nose I would think that these are real tacos and stuff. Did you make this yourself? I didn't know you could bake like this, this is--"
He stopped though when his eyes finally fell on those four little packets and those four little words. Will you marry me. Wade blinked a couple of times because he wasn't sure if he had actually sen what he saw. Maybe there was something that was wrong with his brain, he wouldn't be surprised if that was true. He swallowed and looked over at Bruce, "Are..." he pointed at the cake, "Are you seeing what I'm seeing? I mean, did you put that on there?"
