Brunnhilde had briefly forgotten Ben was human. But, she saw it in his flinching. In the way he brought his shoulders up - like Atlas fumbling the earth. All she'd done was catch a glass he'd knocked from the counter.

"Jesus," she uses another god's name in vain. "I didn't mean to startle you."

Her fingers cradle the caught stem. There are guests in the hallway. They had arrived on-time - which felt rude and unexpected. "Are you okay?"
