Research Log - Human Fear II
As I continue to research the human fascination with being frightened and experiencing things that are frightening--which I will henceforth be referring to as “recreational fear”--I have discovered that during times of celebrating shock and horror, many humans will partake in an activity known as a “haunted attraction.” (Examples include haunted hay ride, haunted corn maze, and haunted house).
I feel that further exploring this form of recreational fear will provide invaluable information, not only for this particular report, but for insight into the human psyche. To fully immerse myself in the haunted attraction experience, I am going to work as a fright actor for a haunted house. I will then attend a different attraction as a patron. My goal is to gain a better understanding not only of why humans engage in recreational fear, but also why they find enjoyment in inflicting recreational fear on others.

(I don't know about other horror writers, but I like to scare people with my writing because I'm a bitch. I also like to get them all attached to my characters and then brutally kill off the characters. It's great fun getting messages from my readers that just say "WHY." Also, there's a series of pictures taken at a particular haunted house attraction thing. It's one that's snapped right as people are scared, and the results are hilarious. Highly recommend you look it up.)
Interesting... so it's the thrill of causing emotional pain in others? Sort of a platonic sadism/masochism relationship, I suppose. I hadn't considered the emotional attachment aspect of recreational fear, but it's reasonable that that would be a part of it.
Interesting! Much can be said with just an expression... I will be certain to look those up and analyze them as a part of my studies.
As always, your input is appreciated, Cy.
Research Query - Vulcan/Romulan Physiological Response to Stimuli I
As I have been conducting more studies regarding the human tendency to engage in what can only be called “recreational fear,” I am beginning to form a theory involving the difference between Romulanoid Vulcanoid and Human evolution. However, I need to document more experiences before I can form an educated hypothesis.
To any Vulcan who sees this query: What is your physiological response to human “scare” stimuli?
I understand that asking for any emotional response would be inappropriate and pointless. However, I would be interested to know any and all information regarding exposure or involvement in human recreational fear activities. Horror movies, haunted houses, decorations, traditions... Any information will be useful. An exchange of like information is available upon request.
