Luz is pretty much just vibin as the principal of Hexside and Amity an advisor of the new council. they adopted 2 dumbass kids and occasionally help out others that wander by, part of the Human Project or not.
they have v tasking jobs but still somehow manage to cause trouble, especially Luz. homegirls become the most wanted witch in the Isles, right up there with Eda (which both are VERY proud of). yet the school is a sort of safehouse bc nobody can touch Luz unless Amity lets them. shes not technically a councilmember but she was part of the revolution that created it so,,,,she gets a few freebees. and so does Luz but those are growing scarce. but sometimes if its an actual issue they break into the school n just drag Luz out to deal w a problem. its a common spectacle among the students at this point.
everyone else is just kinda hanging out in their own jobs and lives but still get wrapped up in family shenanigans and are just as close as before. most of them are famous (or infamous) in their own right but its so obscure and specific that not everyone realizes their related until the owl fam shows up in dramatic throwing-doors-open-with-the-squad-behind-you fashion. there was a point in time where it was a little nerve-wracking to mess with anyone from the rebellion times out of fear someone important would drop in bc apparently they’re bros.
I finished one side of the quilt! I’ve decided do make it double sided instead of making one side plain fabric or fleece/flannel or whatever. It’s all made from mask scraps...so anyone who has ever bought a mask from me will see a bit of the same fabric in the quilt. I’m calling it the ‘pandemic patchwork covid 19 quarantine quilt’. I’m thinking of actually stitching that into one of the plain squares somewhere....I think it’d be cool like decades from now....

Luz pops up in the human realm to just check if any kids wanna join, then dips out. She very much wants to take in every kid who asks to join the Human Project but Amity had to put the breaks on that one bc for Fucks Sake they’re busy enough as it is.
Before the Human Project was a known myth among the kids, Luz would sort of just. Vibe in the human realm. She decided she was gonna become the cryptid so that the rumors could start. Shows up In The Distance to freak out some bullies, sets King lose and see what happens, all that fun jazz. It eventually gets to the point where she decides to kin that one scene in My Neighbor Totoro and stands at a bus stop in her full getup. Even after all these years, she still likes the rain so she doesn’t bother shielding herself. She’s a fun sight that the kids would gawk at. And anytime there was a kid or just a random person who didn’t have a raincoat or umbrella, she makes one of those force fields like Eda w Boiling Rain only its not as strong and is nearly invisible. That’s how she got the name of the weird, but nice witch on the corner. She got to talking to a lot of different people that way.
Luz is a gargoyle she sits on the roofs of random buildings, most of which are not close to hers. Its usually in the middle of the night and its one of the few times she breaks out the Owlet mask. She just runs around w the mask being a crackhead and scaring the shit out of people. She takes great joy in it and sometimes Eda will join her.
Luz: Yeah I’m a principal of a school
Some human kid: Knowing you, that has got to be the worst functioning school ever

Camila updates Luz on whats going on with the world and every time Luz is grateful she stuck to the Boiling Isles. The Isles is crackheaded and wild but at least you know what to expect. In the human realm you get slapped with shit you aren’t prepared for. She just looks at the kids like “damn bitch you live like this?”

we CAN call him Jeff. to the kids he’s like, Principal Fernsby or Wormwood or somethin. but Luz insists on calling him by his first name
the janitors aren’t paid enough to care so when Luz shows up at the door n says “hey I got like some twinkies and 50 cents if you let me in” they just shrug n open the door. she’ll break a window anyway. Jeff is FUMING but cant pin it on anyone.
if anyone is caught trying to get Luz to cancel school for the day, its an immediate suspension (which was typically the idea they were going for anyway so. smart move, dude) with consideration of expelling if yr caught doing it three times. everyone normally just goes to the shack to ask Luz to do them a solid.
the school now has security to throw Luz out whenever caught. Luz is always cheerful the entire time there and is THE teasing shit. you think shes plucky enough on the town? shes EXTRA joyful teasing in the school w Jeff. hes personally seen that glee drop only for a moment when Luz was bein a bastard and mentioned “well I’d love to stay and chat, but my wife wants me back soon” w the most smug look bc yes, she WILL boast about her wonderful wife whenever she can. Jeff is tired n just mumbles “your wife must be a goddamn lunatic to put up w you every day” n Luz’s permanent grin went to a tiny frown for a moment bc Listen. She Loves Her V Much. but it was there for like 2 seconds before she hit back w another joke. Jeff was very sus
I just remembered that glyphs don’t work in the human realm so. Luz maybe got help from her friends for the snow trick skrjthrkjt. who knows, maybe her tattoos work. her staff definitely does so lets go w that. she asks the kids if they want to see a magic trick and she shows off her light spell, her forever favorite, n the kids are LOSIN IT they are MESMERIZED. Jeff shows up and she vanishes the magic n gives the kids a wink even tho Jeff is already pretty sure hes dealing w some wizard or somethin here he just don’t care.
I’m combining the ‘Jeff finds out’ from another ask n simply: a kid from the Human Project, who alternates between Hexside and human school, was hanging in the hallways when they saw Luz being dragged out w Jeff yelling @ her n the kid just goes “Principal Noceda?? what are you doing here????” n Jeff whirls to the kid like “im sorry, principal WHAT now”
cue the kid calmly explaining to Jeff that yes, that ‘other school’ they go to is one that Luz is the principal of. Luz, knowing that the gig is up n its Time, even adds “yeah dude I had a whole TON of paperwork. god it was so much paperwork,,,you want me to bring it cause like I Got It” meanwhile Jeff is LOSING HIS MIND.
hes insisting this is all an elaborate joke and Luz is just going “do you want me to grab the other kids n paperwork?? cause I will” meanwhile Jeff is trying to process how someone like Luz can run an entire school and is genuinely worried for the poor kids who have to go there n what its like. Luz goes “hey, I’d b happy to give you some pointers. one principal to another, eh?” and he proceeds to have her thrown out of the school and frantically looks up wherever this ‘Hexside’ is. he cant find it so he decides then that it IS all a trick and later accuses Luz of there never being a Hexside n shes a liar!
Luz proceeds to bring the official paperwork. its all in order, its legit. Jeff then demands where Hexside is and how Luz can afford to be away from it so often. Luz calmly says “oh, Jerbo usually takes care of things, its actually pretty chill there most the time. and its like, right down the road”
Luz SO wanted to just kick him through the mirror portal and show-off Hexside but she figures Amity would probably kill her and Jeff might have a heart attack so she has to sigh and settle for being the only one (aside from Human Project kids) who Knows The Truth
How widespread do the urban legends of the human project manage to get, does it ever attract the attention of the Authorities, I just found the stuff about the human project, and I am Hungry.
Oh boy are you in for a TREAT I will NOT shut up abt Four Years
It’s mostly just a thing in Luz’s town but news does spread to the surrounding towns, especially that one town a little ways away that everyone is pretty sure had a full-scale apocalypse happen but if you ask they just say “never mind all that”. Other people have shown up to see the Elusive Witch Lady and every time Luz has fun w them. However, there was a minor issue.....
Authorities obviously caught wind that this wasn’t just some teen prank. There was literally a lady living in the woods who, legally speaking, was harassing & kidnapping kids. Granted most of the kids came back, but then 3 kids went to the Witch Lady and never came back (bc FUCK the human realm & bad families) so they decided “yeah we should do something about that”
So there was a stakeout at the shed. They weren’t expecting much, but then they see this lady open the door of the shed, see a good amount of cops, they all stare for a few moments, and then she slowly shuts the shed door again. Obviously they broke in and Luz had to make a break for it and just chilled at her moms house that night.
It was absolutely unstoppable. They Could Not contain Luz. They captured her and she broke out in less than 3 hours. Multiple times. At this point they gave up and just asked for proof the kids who didn’t return were fine, Luz appeared with the kids who said “yeah we know what we’re doing we wanna stay in the Demon Realm” and they left her alone. They ain’t messing w demons and magic today hell no
I like to think while Luz becomes principal in Four Years, a side project of hers is quietly introducing more humans to the magic of the demon realm. Like she first invites a few freshmen to see the Isles and shows off Hexside to them to get more human students and it progressively grows into a bigger project over time as students enroll and word spreads back on Earth.

Luz introduces a bunch 12-15 year old’s to the school during the summer like how she was. Aka, she stalks a bunch of houses with King & Snowy to pick out the magic/weird kids to guide to the new portal. What she does is she introduces kids one or two at a time before letting them go home, think it over, and then decide if they want to come back or not. Course there have been kids that try to tell their parents, but when they hear it’s by The Haunted Kidnapping House, they tend to not really believe it. Also there’s like....nothing there & Luz is really good at running from cops.
First year she brings in a total of 3 kids. Only one stuck around, as the other two decided to leave at different points during the summer. They have some wild stories to tell. And throughout the summers, Luz would introduce at the very most 5 kids at once to Hexside. Normally the kids would go back to their parents at the end of the day (coming up with some kinds of excuse), but for the few who ditched things like camp for Luz, they live with someone in the family if they can take them. But usually just with other families like with exchange students. God help the poor souls who end up spending the summer with Edric or Eda.
This isn’t counting the ones from the previous year who often find ways to come back and hang with their previous families. In like a decade there are at least 15 humans wandering about the Isles, not counting Luz.
AND THEN,,,,there’s the kids who come during the School Years. Usually those rare kids who were sent to a boarding school n slipped out into the Boiling Isles. And that orphan who ran off that one time n now stays year-round. It’s kinda like Camp Halfblood from Percy Jackson. There’s the few rare kids who stay year-round with their own foster families but most go home during either the summer but usually during those school 9 months.
Most of the kids all know of the other humans in the Isles. Sometimes they’re friends, sometimes they’re not. The first few years the human kids all Pack Bond together because there aren’t any other humans but eventually they loosen up and now the older kids help the younger ones make more witchy friends. It’s like it’s own niche little family in itself.
The kids also, of course, tell any of their human realm friends about this and end up bringing them to the Isles, and some of those kids start learning magic. And within a few years, it’s sort of a thing known by the kids in the area. The creepy haunted house takes you to a whole other dimension full of witches and demons and magic oh my!
It’s a running legend that how you get in is during a one hour period right after the sun sets, a demon dog or snowy owl (depends who you ask) appear and ask you what you’re here for. If you tell them you’re there for The Witch, the Isles, or some variant, they’ll take you into the house and through a mirror you’re sure was normal before, and you’ll appear in a land that is not our own.
Course, this is only on a Saturday night. they won’t appear any other night, for some reason the kids can’t think of.
And yes, Luz and Amity do ‘adopt’ (it’s not legally but its the thought that counts) the occasional kid who comes through, human or not. You thought I was going to stop at giving them one kid? You foole. You buffoons. It’s unending.
