who are these divas
YAY!!! Hello KILLTOMFAIRFAX Tomfairfax.
Ok. Starting off with something basic about them:
-These are 2 Splatoon OCs from my Splatoon OC's Side-B "Not Canon Compliant". Which Unlike Side-A where I try to keep myself mostly within the bounds and rules of Canon Splatoon, Side-B is where all my other random ideas that don't fit there go to.
Of usual they're in the "Humans in Splatoon Setting" type of ocs I make, since I am, or was briefly the Number 1 Humans in Splatoon Fan, but have since been demoted to Number 4.
Their "Story" follows closely with most common tropes of this setting, Cryosleep, bunkers, etc etc. Except unlike in most stories that follow this trope, it's not just one or 2 people that survive cryosleep, but a whole maybe 500 of them.
The idea for their story came up when I first found out about the Splatoon Earth Map (here's a post to it) and how a WIDE majority of lights and cities were in the coastal part of the continent, and while yes, there's a few large clusters of cities inside the continents, a LOT of places have very few lights inland, ESPECIALLY in the islands around where Japan should be in the Splatoon world, and where the main 4 games take place. They were also inspired a by a bunch of post-post-apocalyptic animated youtube shorts about how people live after the apocalypse and they're really cute and cosy and I wanted a vibe like that because I love humanity and I hate how Apocalyptic Media makes humanity always the bad guys as if it's not just a couple morons fault instead of our whole species.
So I was like, what if there was a bunker of Humans who did survive the Great Flood and managed to create a little village in the land surrounding their bunker? In their case they don't interact with the Earth's new population, not because they're scared or hate them, but because they understand that they're not the main living beings now and prefer to stay in their place and leave peacefully.
As of the character's ages portrayed in the image, they're a part of the 3rd generation or so of people in the village (Grandkids of the ones who did survive), so i'd say it's been about 50-60 years after the grandparents woke up from cryosleep and started the village.
It's a mostly normal town with a bit of an all-over-the place aesthetic, that is hidden deep within Inkadia's forests, quite a bit southwest of Calimari County.
The story these oc's are in also use my "SPLATOON HUMANS ARE FUCKING TALL AS HELL" headcannon, since I believe most 'overworld' (Lobbies/Plazas/HeroMode overworlds) are about to actual scale to inklings.
Joanna is Dinah's adopted older sister, like most she's not too curious about the outside world and preferes her home since it's all she's ever known. She has a fairly large group of friends and is well-liked by her peers. Joanna originally wanted to work as any sort of medical profressional at the village's main "Hospital", which is located in what used to be the main bunker, however during her internship, where she spends most of her time taking care of documents, files, and a bit oftheir storage, she realises she preferes desk jobs a bit more and is planning to one once her intership ends.
Her family originally found Dinah as a baby, when she had been dropped off at edge of village in a little basket. The elders at first thought it might be some sort of pet someone dropped off since they couldn’t take care of it, however some of the younger people at the time, who had been using some tech to access Inkadian media, realised it was an inkling baby and everyone promptly panicked. After a bit Joanna's family was tasked with taking care of the baby as they had no way to bring the child back to their parents.
Dinah would then grow up with the humans, only ever seeing other Inklings on the TV occasionally. Due to her nature as a Inkling which obviously gives her a much shorter stature than the humans, and the ability to shape-shift and freely bypass grates without taking them off has led her to become a sort of Handywoman sometimes, with her wanting to pursue a career in maintenance and repairs when she is older.
Currently she's a student at the singular school the village has, and has a decently sized friend circle. She's known for being energetic but also for trying too hard to seem cool and nonchalant at times. She has decent grades but excels in physical activities and loves doing parkour, which has some adults sighing at the sight of her, knowing she's probably going to run into a wall some time that day.
Dinah has a happy, healthy relationship with the people around her and never felt singled out luckily. She mostly wears hand-me-downs from her sister or re-tailored clothing that can fit her height.
When they were younger, like Joanna was 13 and Dinah 6, Dinah would often hang around Joanna and cling to her legs or hands and try to scale her until she's sitting on her shoulders like a cat. Thankfully Dinah as an inkling was fairly light so Joanna had no issue with Dinah doing that.
When Dinah turned 14 Joanna suggested she take a trip to Inkopolis, since it was the "Main Hub" for Inklings from what the village could see, so she could learn more about herself and see if she'd enjoy turf sports.
Most people thought the idea was sound, despite them being isolated they never had anything against going outside, it's just that no one wanted to go yet. Dinah however was incredibly anxious and scared at the prospect of going there. Believing that she would never fit in with other Inkfish and that they'd instantly see something "wrong" with her.
Thankfully with encouragement and help from her family she started learning the Inkling's language and culture from the few resources and hijacked internet signals they had.
And the day after she became 15 Joanna and a friend took her near the closest train station to the village (9km) and said their temporary goodbyes to her as she sneaked onto the train.
Inkpolis was both an amazing sight and a the most dreadful thing that Dinah had ever laid her eyes upon. Her language skills needed to be worked on as she could barely understand anyone and she often noticed how many Inkfish stared at her and mumbled to their friends, which she believed were making fun of her. (Most were actually praising her hair but not like she could understand the slang they used).
Eventually she would spot Marie in the Square and go towards her to ask some questions about how to sign up for turf war. When Marie Disappears she goes after her and BAM she becomes Agent 4.
Dinah is extremely curious about Octarian Culture and technology, ESPECIALLY after learning the Domes were Originally made by Humans. Her relationship with Marie is a bit more professional than most interpretations, mostly due to the language and culture barrier between them, but I'm sure they'll become better friends later.
Canon goes as canon goes. She doesn't really have much of a relationship with Agent 3 or Cuttlefish, but she's hanged out with Agent 8 a lot after Callie introduced them and they bond over being new to the Inkling world.
Obviously Dinah doesn't live in Inkopolis so she often takes the train back home and her family calls her when she's in Inkopolis.
ANNNNNDDD that's about it for everything I have written for them. I do have some more fun facts tho.
Dinah
-Due to growing up around humans she has developed a 'dry' accent when compared to other Inklings's gargly voices, making her voice seem uncanny to many
-She cuts her hair in multiple shapes and strands so it resembles human hair.
-Has a crush on one of her classmates but is unsure if they're accept her feeling back due to the fact she's not human.
-Dinah and 8 learn Inkling language together, often having study days where they meet up to do so.
-She loves inkling fashion and the fact that clothing fits her. Turf war tho? It's alright to her, it's fun and helps her use up her extra energy but she's a casual and only plays whenever she feels like it.
-Met Paul from Sashimori once after he heard her on a call with her mum on the street. He pesters her sometimes for info on humans when he sees her on the street, but they're nothing more than acquaintances.
-Finds the fact that there's milk and dairy products in Inkopolis weird and disturbing since they don't have cows. (the village clones like the same 5 cows in order to get milk)
Joanna
-Is interested in how Inkfish's business's and monetary systems works, and also wants to learn about their history.
-Ever since Dinah went to Inkopolis she's been starting to want to go there too, but her internship keeps her stuck at the village.
-Has an on and off relationship with one of her best friend's since her last years of school.
-Besides Dinah she's the one who know's the most Inkling Language. When she has time she re-tailors and cuts some of her old unused clothes so they'll fit on her sister.
NOW here's all the posts I have on them! I had a little diary like thing from the POV of Joanna about when they found Dinah as a baby, but I couldn't find it sadly :(
