Over the past few months, I have been setting a goal of only supporting cosmetics brands that are cruelty free and as a longer term goal, vegan. As our technology and standards have progressed, I believe that testing on animals is not a necessity for cosmetic companies. Recently it came to my attention that there is a Bill (the Humane Cosmetics Act) that would begin to put a permanent end to cosmetic animal testing. There is currently a petition that you can sign to support this bill. If this subject is as important to you as it is to me, I would encourage you to sign. Dr. Hauschka: Always Cruelty-Free

‘Where Science And Spirit Meet’––I came across Dr. Hauschka products for the first time in a health for store in New York immediately after college, and Hauschka’s Daily Face Care Kit was the first skin care item(s) I ever bought. As soon as I tried the kit, I knew I’d found my products for life. I recently found Dr. Hauschka cosmetics in a health food store here in Berlin. Today, I use their mascara, blush and lipstick. But the greatest discovery about Dr. Hauschka products for me was that they have always been cruelty-free. 

Here is a portion of the company’s statement on animal testing:

“The responsible and sustainable development of our products is something that has been at the core of Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics ever since the beginning, back in 1967. Today we are proud to continue to carry this philosophy forward. 

Naturally, this means that no animal tests have ever been carried out either by or on behalf of Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics since our founding in 1967. 

While Dr. Hauschka has always foregone animal testing, the EU Cosmetics Regulation represented a decisive step forward for animal welfare in the entire cosmetics industry: As a result, tests on animals for cosmetic products and the raw materials required to create them have been completely banned in the EU since 11 March 2013. This is a legally binding ban, i.e. all cosmetics manufacturers within the EU must comply with this legislation.”

How wonderful to discover this consistency. By the way, ever since I moved from the U.S. to Germany, I’ve felt a sense of ease about most cosmetic products here because of the EU’s 2013 ban on animal testing. It’s long overdue for the U.S. to adopt the same ethics about cosmetics!
