Fingers gently carded through black fur, Erwin long since having come to terms with the fact that the captain was not quite human. It had taken a while for him to understand the fact that the powerful man he had found Underground had actually been a wolf that had learned to wear a ‘sheep’s skin’ in order to survive. Sometimes it was hard to separate the man from the beast, and questions of whether it even mattered to begin with sometimes came to him when he helped comfort the captain into falling asleep. “What’s it like being a wolf?” he found himself asking, the question easily leaving his lips without him really meaning for it to. It was too late to take it back, though, and so he just went along with it. Besides, the captain seemed to like answering questions in regards to himself.
“What’s it like being a human? Do you ask that question to yourself when you wake up in the morning?” Erwin smirked slightly at that quip, always so impressed with that sharp tongue the other male had. Even half-asleep he still was able to offer some form of retort to even something as small as this.
“Point taken. It is rather interesting for me to think about though. I sometimes wonder why you’re so interested in helping the very creatures that have caused you quite a bit of grief. I would think you would prefer for humans to simply cease to be.” A furred ear twitched slightly, Erwin unable to resist scratching it softly as he heard Levi giving a small sigh of content, seemingly melting on his lap even more. For being such a potentially dangerous creature, the wolf was oddly adorable. It was difficult to not want to spoil him each time he was in this form. Unprofessional? Yes. However, what was professional about your captain being a large black wolf that could talk to you and liked to nap on your couch every now and then?
“Because not all humans are shitty and the ones that I like wouldn’t be here. Let me get some sleep, Erwin, and then you can ask your ten thousand questions as usual.” Erwin chuckled, continuing his caresses down the other’s thick mane of hair on his neck.
“Fine, fine. Just don’t ask me to pamper you like a poodle next time. I have things to do that don’t involve petting canines and helping them get sleep.” If Levi had anything to say to those words, he didn’t have a chance to say anything. Sleep had already claimed him rather quickly, the wolf’s breathing turning labored and ears twitching now and then as dreams instantly set in. Amused, Erwin shook his head, gently sliding the wolf’s head from his lap and making his way back to his desk to resume his work. He had encountered many odd things in his life, yet being friends with a wolf had to be the oddest.
