Today’s Good Deed 🧢

Out on a trail today, I found a hat.

My first thought was, “Nice, free hat.”

Then I looked inside and found one of those little stickers with a name and phone number. So I sent the owner a message and a photo showing where I’d left it. On a tree.

They were really grateful, and honestly, that gave me a little smile.

Now I’m thinking I should get some of those stickers myself.

The problem is… I never lose anything.

I could put one on my phone, but then if I lost it, I’d mostly just be helping myself get some missed calls…

I'm sitting here feeling ever so slightly nostalgic as I compose this caption. For all of you that have spent an extended period away from your families and loved ones will know what I'm trying to get at here. It's like an unspoken or unrealised weight that you carry being away from everyone you hold dear. Now don't misunderstand my words, what I mean is that whilst being totally content in the moment there always seems to be a force or an energy that's completely opposite. It's an opposing force pulling you into a scary yet familiar dimension where we allow the weight of the world to grind on our cumbersome shoulders until there is only bone. With our bare bones brittle and worn down we are expected to smile in the face of adversity and become brave when we were never taught what bravery is. How can we all be happy and content to live in a place like this where we already know the answers to the most impending questions humanity has but we choose to ignore them? Does me writing this post and sharing it with my loyal following mean that I am in some way involved in a capitalistic society that teaches us nothing but greed? It explicitly says in the Bible to "love thy neighbour" but I've been doing the complete opposite. The societal outreach program that we are all born a part of has taught me to be the best and to crush any and all of my adversaries. They say that there is nothing like a bit of healthy competition, how can a fair game hurt anyone I ask? Well I'll tell you. I'm at the finish line holding a golden ribbon and feeling on top of the world whilst my rival has collapsed mid race. I guess his heart condition finally got the better of him. And I'm told not to feel guilty, that it was a fair win and I should be proud of myself despite the circumstances. I call bullshit. The man just had a pulmonary embolism and I'm supposed to be happy and proud in the moment. Life is a cruel cruel thing and it teaches us to be bitter instead of sweet.
