So here we go! @outer-andromeda got me so fixated on the concept of a HumanJuice AU that when I was designing him just for the hell of it I couldn’t help coming up with a backstory. So with the assistance of my beautiful friend and beta @cyanide-latte, we came up with a story for this dude. And I promised Gabe I would share, so here it is.

Following the musical canon, obviously, after he leaves the Deetzes. Don’t have all the details yet, but he winds up haunting a girl (who I am still designing but haven’t come up with anything I like yet) who is able to see him. Over time, as she fears him less, they form a kind of friendship. When an incident occurs that threatens her life, BJ saves her. So there’s a little hidden detail in his curse. A kind of folklore bargain. He saved the life of a living out of compassion and not for selfish reasons (like when he stopped Lydia from jumping from the roof) and because of this he’s given 101 days of life. During these 101 days, he has to perform several good deeds. If he succeeds he keeps his new life. If he fails, he returns to being a ghost.

But our boy panics. He remembers what happened the last time he was brought to life and he is terrified of that happening again. He huddles up in a corner in hysterics, terrified of overwhelming emotions and refusing to perform any good deeds. Even coming up with ways to be evil to shorten the deal, perhaps. But in his panic he threatens his living friend. Fearing for her own life and unsure how to handle this freshly-alive, over-emotional Betelgeuse, she decides to leave. Now he’s all alone and has to deal with this on his own.

As he calms down he suddenly realizes what he’s done and regrets it because she was probably the first real friend he had. So he decides to give life a go and perform those good deeds to make up for what he’s done. I like to think he steps out, takes a deep breath and then nopes back inside to question everything a little longer. Our boi is scared. His choice of clothing was Yoru’s idea and I love it. When he’s first starting out he wears these big, bulky coats. She considered him still dressing kind of ratty like before, but a little cleaner. The turtleneck was my own idea because I just love the idea of him in a turtleneck sweater. Once he becomes more accustomed to life and gets comfortable, Yoru said he would dress like a total dork. She instantly thought of Hawaiian shirts. It wasn’t until I was drawing it that I remembered the unmade sequel of the film “Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian”. Yoru was completely unaware of this and she’s now blown away lol Still I love the idea of him in Hawaiian shirts and khaki shorts. He’s such a dweeb! He will meet his friend again in the future. Possibly even romance stemming from it?? And I couldn’t come up with a story for him without him ever seeing the Deetzes and Maitlands again. That has to happen. But overall, that’s all we have so far. If I ever have the drive to write anything maybe I’ll do some drabbles or something. Also, bonus:
