Finally getting round to answering

The eggs are not fertilized, we aren't eating chicks. This is what happens when ppl follow blindly, I dunno other than they may be Sheeple.
Thanks for answering. I like your term 'Sheeple', fits rather nicely. I agree with the whole 'following blindly thing'. There needs to be some form of education that covers this kind of thing, I spent over two hours the other week trying to get a coworker to understand that even if there was a cock with the hens that isn't a guarantee that the eggs will be fertile.

Thanks for answering, that actually helps. :) So it's basically more of sticking to the principles of veganism than picking and choosing what you want to follow. (that hasn't come out quite right, but can't quite figure out how else to word it)

the mother hens actually eat their own eggs for the nutrients. Also what happened to the male siblings of your hens? They aren't ours to ea
Thanks for answering but where on Earth are you getting that information? When a hen has chicks she doesn't go near eggs, has no need to lay and doesn't touch them. Eat eaters (of the poultry variety) on the other hand are bad in all cases, its a habit that's practically impossible to break them of, I've even known an egg eating hen to steal eggs from a broody hen just to break and eat it, this egg was fertile and in the beginning stages of its gestation period. In regards to the the cock birds we have, if they aren't staying, and no one that we trust has need of them then we let them have as much of a life as garden chickens can have, with space to run about, their own building to keep them safe from the fox and a varied diet, then we eat them, plain and simple. It's better than getting chicken from the supermarket as at least we know for a fact that they've had a life not cooped up in some dingy shed for six months before being killed, ours have a longer life, a healthier life and are killed humanely.
