Hi! I'm Juliana Rei Herrera coming from the land of Alfamarts, Cavite! I'm 17 years old, awkward enough to share the sentiment of an introvert and loud enough to engage with a social butterfly.

I'm into anime and K-pop. I've been attending anime conventions like Cosplay Mania and Cosplay Matsuri for like, four years? Never been to concerts since my wallet is crying constantly. But due to the pandemic, this year's conventions and concerts were cancelled. Quite sad, but at least I have something to look forward to next year.

Oh, I love listening to music. My friends always tells me that “I am not Juliana if I don’t carry earphones.” I mentioned earlier that I listen to K-pop, but I also listen to some Japanese artists like Kenshi Yonezu, LiSa, Androp, and One Ok Rock. If you want to try some of their songs, try listening to Kenshi Yonezu’s “Lemon” and “Eine Kleine.” Both songs are really good to listen, I assure you. 

I almost forgot. I love going to cafes. Just an order of white choco frappucino and a book on hand, my day is complete. Since I live near a cafe, it is very convenient for me to just go there and let myself feel the cafe ambience. Just me, alone, savoring the aroma of brewed coffee by the counter with the mellow cafe music in the background. 

But it’ll be nice if I have a good company.

“USE SOCIAL MEDIA WISELY, DON’T LET THEM CONSUME YOU”

Living in a modern era must be too sophisticated and convenient for us nowadays. We can access to what we want to have and know in just a click.

However, these social media that we have, without our knowing, gradually consume us and altering our own state of mind.

Moreover, these Social media bring not just a good impact but also bring unhealthy impacts to our thoughts, behaviors and emotions. Hence, these would influence or even change our habits for example, our eating habits (Millard, 2020). Social media contains various content or platforms that may seem good for us or bad as well. One of the example is Cyber bullying. Cyber bullying has its immense toxicity that affects one human’s mentality. It may also cause Chronic stress, Anxiety and lastly Depression.

Our Mental Health as well as Emotional Health are the vital part of our life and these are part of the five aspects of our Holistic health. Our mental health encompasses our psychological, emotional and social well-being whereas emotional health promote productivity and effectiveness in activities like work, school or care-giving (Xong, 2018).

In conclusion, Social Media is very useful and beneficial because it lessens the hardships of work but, we must utilize these Social media prudently and use it for important matters only. Our Real world is more significant than our Virtual world. Stick to something that has positivity and have a good riddance of negativity as well as toxicity.

Catfishing

Catfishing is a serious social media issue that shouldn't be taken lightly. Catfishing is the act of deceiving someone by creating a fake or a sockpuppet identity, usually targetting specific people to victimize for fraud and even abuse. It is usually employed as romance scams on dating websites. This is a serious issue because these catfishers are using private information (pictures, name, personal identity) of a person (may it be a celebrity or an ordinary citizen) to bait and deceive their targeted victims and hide their real persona. But with the new 'Data Privacy Act' released to the public, these catfishers can be punished by the law. However, we shouldn't be laidback and careless, thus, we should always be meticulous with the people we talk to online.

Catfishers are everywhere, you never know, you may be talking to one right now. It won't hurt to be safe and risk-free right?

today’s cup of tea: how to use social media responsibly

Hey there! Hope you’re feeling comfy right now ‘cause I’m about to spill some precious tea.

There’s a lot that’s been happening to the world right now that caused us to stay at home, browsing news feeds and social sites. Let’s be real - we’ve been using  social media at least an hour or two a day. 

So, how ‘bout we do some recap about the netiquette? We don't want to be involved in some shady business, do we?

Anyway.

Here’s Five Ways to Use Social Media Responsibly:

1.) Recognize what is unhealthy and block it.

Remember: In social media, you are the one who controls the content you see. There will always come a time when you will come across with a post in social media that is false and negative in nature. Be alert on what your mind is telling you. If you felt uncomfortable, push that block button. It’s healthy to manage your feed and remove the source of fallacy and negativity.

2.)  Choose your audience.

Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram allows you to choose your friends. Take it into perspective when accepting friend and follower requests. After all, everything that you post online is an information. 

3.) Be wary of oversharing.

Now let’s talk about this one. 

Some of us loves to showcase what happened to our day, what frustrate us, what our loving partner gave us in our nth birthday- all of that stuff. But let me remind you, be aware of the limit you can share online. Make sure you don’t share confidential information (e.g. credit card number, car plaque number, passport) that can be taken advantage by the others, especially those who were engaging to shady business. 

4.) Think before you click.

Always. ALWAYS. think twice before you post something. Re-read your post/comment’s content and think. Is it offensive? Is it insensitive? Is it unnecessary? Evaluate. 

Remember: once there’s a damage, it cannot be undone.  

5.) Remember that Internet remembers everything.

Even though you delete your post, history, or account - Internet has a record of something that you have done.   Just like what the CEO of the online image management firm ReputationDefender,  Michael Fertik said, “The Internet makes everyone a public figure.” We are all seen by the public, and we must act responsibly just like how we should when interacting in the real world.

Reasons why this happen

It usually happen after break up that is why it is called Revenge Porn. Another reason is to get money by threatening the victim. Women must be careful about themselves, even if it is your husband, boyfriend or bestfriend. You really can't fully trust anyone aside from yourself. This crime is Punishable here in the Philippines under cybercrime prevention act or Republic Act no. 10175. Don't be afraid to take action.

Save Yourself by preventing it. Don't be a victim.
