I really wanna yap about my military frouse AU and I decided to do so by talking about their personalities, body builds and some additional information that's not spoilers
strap in for a ride
for starters - everyone in the AU is a bit older than irl, it gives more reason behind their ranks and my personal thought process of them being in the line of duty for a decade, the team being formed for around 6-7 years
second - their bodies are different as well, we are talking about men who constantly train and go on field missions, I tried to make them look as close as possible but let's be real, okay?
third - while being mature and grown men they sure don't act like that outside of missions LMFAO
I still want them to have those playful dynamics between each other, goofy moments that would break otherwise rather heavy fic. Think of them as scary looking puppies with a lot of emotional damage and unresolved problems
Now! We'll be going down age wise, with me providing photo refs (and I'm sorry for not crediting works in advance, I took everything from pinterest)
John (aka Kryoz aka Sergeant Keyes) - 39 years old
Got his nickname after losing a bet and having to sit in the ice bath for 2 minutes.
He's the one who acts on emotion the most, harsh with both words and actions and more often than not it's hard to understand if he's being genuine. He is very blunt and straightforward and has a very select few whose comfort he will put above his own. The only person who is blessed with a somewhat softer side of him is Smitty.
Has BPD that he did not tell about during medical evaluation. It's a struggle to take care of his diagnosis while being in the military but he genuinely tries (and also Puffer provides him medication. How? John has no idea).
Joined the military around 25 after numerous fails in ordinary jobs (at that point in life he saw the military as his only solution).
Was promoted to Lieutenant multiple times but demoted just as many times due to his temperament, unable to get along with any higher ups until he was switched to TF 406. John really wasn't getting along with anyone on the team — until Smitty. Somehow, that goofy albino managed to become his favourite person, and later on, his partner.
His body build is slim, lithe, but definitely has muscle. Closest comparison would be the builds of rock climbers, and the stamina of one too. This man — along with Pezzy — is the fastest and stealthiest in the squad, and has more agility in his movements than the rest of the boys.
Most of the time it's his job to gather intel/target tracking/cover fire.
John is an exceptional unit on the field, even if he will flood comms with every curse word while at it.
Max (aka Pezzy aka Sergeant Russell) - 37 years old
Got that nickname after repeatedly calling everyone "peasant" and the task force got creative in return.
A bit of a scaredy cat, Pezzy is still not used to being an active field member and also has trouble getting along with people. He is reserved and short-clipped, but if you get to know him becomes absolutely lovely to exist near.
Has selective mutism which he got during his years of service, and that supplied heavily in the change of his character.
Pezzy joined the military around 20 but applied for the medical branch. For almost a decade he was stationed at different bases, providing first aid to units who just returned from missions. Then, during a more demanding year, his position was switched to field medic, where he both got to know TF 406 and got his selective mutism.
After going through therapy and long evaluation he asked to join the Task Force.
Much like John, Pezzy has a slim, athletic build with a bit less muscle due to him joining the field work latest (he'll gain it with time). Where he lacks in strength or speed he makes up with stamina — Pezzy can easily outlast any of the TF members, and that's considering they all can do this all day.
Pezzy is both a scout and a field medic in one, and it's because of him the task force hasn't lost any of its members yet.
Chris (aka Puffer aka Captain Jordan) - 36 years old
Got that nickname after making the most accurate impression of eating pufferfish meme. He wasn't able to live it down.
Tired dad™ with kids all of whom need leashes energy. He is done with life and lives out of spite, fairly easy to ragebait in the most stupid ways possible. Despite it all he still kept his inner child, rarely slipping into a more playful mood that is always welcomed within the TF.
Has prosopagnosia (or face blindness) that he acquired during service after blunt force trauma to his right hemisphere. Despite having it for close to a decade, Puffer still mourns his inability to see faces of his close ones.
Puffer joined the military right after college, having come from a family with an army background. He wasn't given any slack due to his status and climbed ranks with his sheer stubbornness and dedication.
Just before he was promoted to the captain Puffer met Grizzy, and the two clicked instantly. They set up the idea of creating their own task force, and built it from nothing on mutual respect and trust, where they welcomed everyone else.
(yes this is Henry Cavill sue me)
Puffer is a good example of a proper athletic build with a slight chubbiness to him. He has everything proportionally — strength, speed, stamina, this man can do it all (he's a captain for a reason). He might not be the strongest or fastest, but he doesn't need it with his team, because he balances it perfectly.
Puffer is the strategist and infiltrator, it is his job to make sure his team has success.
Matt (aka Blarg aka Lieutenant Elias aka Cloud Runner) - 35 years old
Got his nickname after letting out the longest burp on the comms and solely pissing off Puffer.
The sweetest goof to grace the team, energetic and, frankly, complete pain in the ass. He does not think before he speaks and often acts out of line, but in a twisted way it's charming. Despite Matt being a complete goof you probably won't find anyone better to console in and give genuine advice.
Has tourette syndrome that is mostly faded (leaving him with occasional vocal stims and rare motion stims). This is also the reason Matt doesn't watch his mouth — it was practically impossible to before.
Him and Smitty joined the military together shortly after college. They didn't expect this path, aiming for professional hockey instead, but both didn't get the offer in any leagues, after which Matt impulsively chose the army and Smitty happily followed.
They chose different units, with Matt joining the air force, but stayed impossibly close throughout the years, often assigned the same missions.
Him and Smitty were the first to join the task force — or, more accurately, Smitty was invited and put his foot down to only agree if Matt was with him — making 406 an official task force with 4 people.
Matt already has a very good build, so I won't be changing him. He has excellent muscle, just slightly bulky but overall slim form. He is average in both speed and stamina but has the strength of a formula 1 driver or rock climber (being a pilot and operating the heavy aircraft will do that to you). In that regard Matt comes uncomfortably close to Grizzy.
Matt rarely participates in the field, he is their evacuation/machine cover fire, but can be an excellent bait if he is on his feet.
Jaren (aka Smitty aka Lieutenant Smith) - 35 years old
Got his nickname long before the military thanks to Matt messing up his last name due to vocal tics.
Smitty is nonchalant and easy-going, often silly and, a pain in the ass №2 — or, at least that's how he's trying to appear. Beneath the mask of a clown lies a deeply calculated persona with obsession for control. Not exactly unhealthily, but it does throw him off greatly when things don't go the way he planned. (He is also the reason Matt became so great at reading people, with Smitty rarely opening up to anyone else)
He has albinism, which becomes a frequent problem in the field, because he can't be deployed in overly sunny zones and makes him stand out among most landscapes.
Joined the military with Matt after both didn't get offers in hockey — and that played greatly in developing his control obsession — with Smitty signing up to be a sniper despite all the setbacks. He wanted to prove himself as not just a capable asset, but the best that could be out there with sheer spite and stubbornness. And he was successful with it.
His position satiated his need for control and underlined his accuracy with the rifle — which both Puffer and Grizzy noticed after numerous missions with him. That's how Smitty got invited to the 406, dragging Matt with him.
Smitty has a proper dadbod and I will fight all of you. This man looks like a marshmallow but can and will hold you in a chokehold before sending you to sleep with one punch. He's a sniper, yes, but also incredibly strong in close combat (thanks to his spite and will). Sparring matches between him and Grizzy don't happen often but it will always gather a crowd.
Remember — if you see the glint of a sniper rifle, that means that the sniper sees you. And Smitty always proves excellent cover fire.
Jaime (aka Droid aka Sergeant Garcia) - 32 years old
Got his nickname after proving his tech skills and installing Windows on MacBook.
Droid is loud, sweet, obnoxious (affectionately) and friendly to a painful extent. Social anxiety fears him and there is no one who can resist his smile. He is also a gentle giant, but very few know this and even fewer get to enjoy it.
Has ADHD and (spoilers). It doesn't interfere with his service, except for when he needs to watch over his team on cams for more than 2 hours. (And, being the tech support, it happens too much for his liking)
Joined the military right after highschool to make his family proud. With him growing up amongst a lot of siblings and his parents struggling to really provide, there weren't many great expectations placed on him. He took it in his own hands, and now has a career that brings his parents happiness and his siblings more money to spend.
Droid got into the task force because he knew Grizzy. They both served in the same unit, and grew rather close, until Grizzy stepped away from the service after an incident, making them lose touch. Nonetheless, the next time they met it was with Droid saving Grizzy's ass, which solidified his seat in the team.
Droid would have something close to a dadbod with more prominent muscle. This man is bulky and big, like Puffer but with more visible muscle. Despite that Droid is surprisingly light on his feet and has really good speed, a solid second behind John. Watching this man come close to you at the speed he shouldn't be able to execute is a nightmare fuel.
Droid is technical support, he's the one providing visuals, intel, gathering as much information as he can for the missions, and is an excellent soldier on the field.
Nelson (aka Grizzy aka Lieutenant Ross) - 30 years old
Got his nickname after jumping onto a tree when Droid screamed "Grizzly bear!" and laughing his ass off.
Sweet and intimidating gentle giant. He is the youngest in the group and it shows a lot. He can switch from fun and giddy mood to raging fairly quickly, and any minor inconvenience will be treated as a national tragedy, but he pushes through.
Has PTED (post traumatic embitterment disorder) that he acquired during a mission where he was a sole survivor. That was the incident that made him temporarily leave the army and lose touch with Droid.
Grizzy joined the military shortly after high school, and wanted to be in the air force but due to his size was switched to infantry. Grizzy is still bitter about it and has a joking rivalry with Matt.
He spent roughly a year in intensive therapy after his incident and was considered for retirement, but his stubbornness made him return to the service with a promotion, where he met Puffer.
Grizzy is the definition of dadbod. Tall and wide, with bulking and thick muscle around body fat. His figure is easy to spot and the closer it gets the more concerned you are for your place in the food chain. This is without an exaggeration a one man army by sheer strength alone, although he does lack in speed.
Grizzy is an infiltration specialist — it's his job to pave the road for his squad and open the first fire.
