I dunno, guys, I thought about this yesterday and here it is. I wanted to write a fic about it and then “noooo, just make a comic and leave it” :’D

Merlin: Hey, mom, can I throw away these old things that no one is eating?

Hunith *distracted*: You can, dear.

Merlin: okay, you heard it, Gaius, let's go.

Gaius: 😮

Hunith: No, no, Merlin, wait, son, not that old man🤣

Merlin: Oh, okay then, and can I throw away that old man over there? *points to Uther*

Uther: 😡

Arthur and Morgana: You can throw him away!

I’ve always liked the contrast between Arthur’s court and Uther’s, even before Arthur was officially king you could see the difference, and I know the two situations are vastly different; Huinth requested audience with Uther through Arthur, so it was more official (still, remember when Mithian came to ask for Arthur’s help?) and Drea seems so young and terrified. Still, the contrast is still keenly felt (can you imagine Uther bending down to comfort a frightened kid?). As someone’s pointed out before about the fact that Arthur hardly wore his crown or properly sat on the throne, this was one of the other ways Arthur wasn’t just a king. I just wish we had seen it more, or at least not so subtly.

And, hey, if you still think it’s an unfair comparison, how about considering it a direct attack on Uther as a person? because I’m very found of those.

Of course Arthur will use the photo to mock Merlin and talk about how those ears and that hat are absolutely perfect for him but (not so much) secretly he thinks that his boyfriend has always been adorable and keeps the photo in his wallet because he knows perfectly well that Merlin would take it away from him if he did not. Hunith is extremely pleased with his future son-in-law.
