I Thought Sunsets Were Different

Different, That sunrises and sunsets were sat on different Pages of the same dictionary, So that the two ideas could never Intertwine, Share definitions for different Places in time.

I used to think sunsets were Different.

I used to think they never Happened, That their placement in the day Defined their placement in time. That just because they hadn't happened Yet, Doesn’t mean they won’t.

I used to think that in that split Second, When the light grips your hand, And your head rests Between the silhouettes Of clouds, That in that moment, When you’re sat, Part of a Sunset, Just You. Alone, That you could tell the difference Between sunset Sunrise?

The previous years in open view,

Striped and coloured as layers do.

From above I could see for miles,

Now below I see generations.

Sediment built up over time,

History growing with every line.

Then scattered rocks as it falls away,

The land still changing with each day.
