Although hunta does mean huntsman [Mats Redin 1919 Studies on uncompounded personal names in Old English, page 77] or hunter [Percy Reaney 1958 A Dictionary of Surnames, 1st edition, page 174], Hunta is unlikely to be a monothematic name meaning: the hunter. More probably Hunta was formed in the same way as Aca, Bæda, Beaga, Branda, Brorda, Bruna, Burga, Centa, Cutha, Dæda, Dæga, Deora, Dycga, Eada, Ecga, Fortha, Goda, Heaha, Huna, and Hunda.

Usage:
