The jittering, anxious feeling that ran through Micah like a current of electricity was starting to build steadily as the sun continued to set with no sign of a single infected. It would get worse when the stars came out and the darkness settled in. If the demons were smart, they'd wait until most of them were asleep to strike. He stared out one of the front windows of the shop, watching Jack's cat, Nala curl up in one of the last remaining patches of sunlight. Her eyes closed but her ears remained perked and at attention. Micah supposed her kind was better suited to this planet now.
He'd stood still long enough that when a quiet, skittering noise broke the silence, his breathing stopped. It was coming from behind him, but as he slowly turned, he couldn't see any movement to attribute the noise to.
Before Micah could think to investigate, the door opened and Hunter entered the shop. He held out a hand to her, indicating for her to stay still and be quiet. But the skittering had stopped. "I heard something," he said, brows furrowed. "I think it was coming from the underneath the store."
