I write to you from deep within the catacombs of the Old Gods to update you, Most Illustrious Vicar, on our progress. We started out well enough at the entry way we created at the very bottom of the church. These tunnels seem to go on forever as we have walked many, MANY miles and still there is no sign of the end anywhere. The discoveries we have made have been breath taking and I must admit that your man Daigo, and his associates Gratia and Morganna of the Choir, have been most helpful. When first we made our way through these catacombs we were at first quite sure that nothing alive could be down here... We were wrong sir. We were immediately besieged upon by pale faced men of a most emaciated nature. Beasthood has clearly made its way even down here, and has been perhaps down here even longer that it has been on the surface. Thankfully though Daigo, Gratia, and the other hunters have managed to drive them off and clear the way for our Prospectors and Researchers to gather more information of these catacombs. The first thing we have seen is that the catacombs seemed to be less... well catacombs and more of a massive labyrinth of torture, blood letting, and burial. It would seem that the purpose of this maze was to harvest blood, organs, and other bodily components. Vessels of Ritual Blood, severed wrists, even a fully mummified infant has been discovered along with other ghastly yet still fascinating discoveries. Many chests with these items have been collected and even treasure rooms filled with gold, silver, weapons, and other such valuable items have been found, cataloged, and delivered to the surface either for research or sale, thus adding much needed funds to the expedition. Another grand discovery we have made is that of ancient Pthumerian script. As of now we are endeavoring to translate it now. These scripts have been found in equal measures on large depositories of scrolls and headstones that fill the labyrinth. It is most perplexing as to what the meaning of these may be. I must note however I have seen Brother Daigo look over many of these scripts and an almost knowing look has touched his eyes and lips as he looks over them, but he has said repeatedly that he does not know the language, and is simply admiring the calligraphy of the writing. Which may be true as the Pthumerians have written in such a beautiful flowing script it is difficult not to admire the shape and form of the writing. I shall send photographs and sketches of them soon once we have a means of translating them.
The specimens we have gathered from the ranks of the pale faced men we have encountered have been most interesting indeed. Sister Morganna has been most diligent in researching them and performing autopsy’s on the corpses we have gathered but would most certainly like to trap a live specimen for vivisection.
Finally, we have had encounters with rather large beasts down here besides the pale faced men, and have thus set my mind to not only update your most holy personage of the status of our findings, but to request more hunters to act as security whilst we venture further and further down these halls. The supplies we have been sent have been a most helpful relief but we may need to obtain better fighting men to aid us in this endeavor to find out what the ancient Pthumerians knew about the Great Ones. I know that with all that is going on up above has put no small strain on the churches resources, but hopefully this expedition into the labyrinth will yield fruitful and rewarding new finds to aid in that.
