Hurricane Ian carving straight through Florida today and tomorrow. I don’t want to see any of that “Florida deserves it” shit. This is a near Cat 5 storm.

Last major storm Florida saw was Michael and that devastated the panhandle in 2018 (first cat 5 since 1992 to hit the US at all). I remember y’all gettin rowdy then when my family and my friends that I’ve known my whole life were piecing their lives back together after losing their homes, pets, jobs, and for some (thankfully none of my loved ones), lives. And some of yall were laughin it up, saying that we deserved it. Sayin you hoped the storm would split us from the US. Michael literally devastated my home town. I lived there 20 years and couldnt find my own house after that storm because everything was flattened.

None of that with this storm. I’m not even going to point out that there are plenty of “good” people on “your side” that live in these areas. Its true, but it shouldnt matter. People are people. Nobody deserves what a storm like this can cause.

If you have ever made a joke like that, you now owe money to every single person who has lived through a hurricane. Get your wallet.

donate to libraries recovering from hurricane michael!

i was born and raised in panama city, florida. i haven’t lived there for 6 months bc hurricane michael tried to blow us off the map. you may not have heard about it. we haven’t been getting a ton of media coverage and have had record lows of charitable donations after a major hurricane. which isn’t really the fault of individuals! big corporations that donate to hurricane relief for PR reasons have decided it’s not worth it to donate to a poor community like our’s, especially when the national media quit covering recovery efforts after, like, 2 weeks. 

i’m passionate about libraries as one of the last public places it’s ok to exist without spending money. something like 9 out of 10 homes were damaged by this storm. there’s very little normalcy left at home and the destruction is still everywhere. but our libraries have been open and serving the public!!! if you feel comfortable donating through amazon: here is their wishlist if you would like to donate some other way: here is information on their website

hurricane michael carved a huge path of destruction through way more than just bay county. we weren’t even the worst hit. please look in to helping out or spreading news about recovery efforts as far north as georgia.  thank you for reading!!! please reblog!
