Embarrassingly, I had even older @victoriantradingco catalogs at one point (if you can’t see the date, it’s from #2004 😳) but they were likely water damage in a #Hurricane. I uncovered these recently while unpacking some other things that survived the “The Wettest Decade Ever”. Also found the address labels that I ordered from there for that house. The late 90s/early 2000s catalogs didn’t seem to have survived the roof coming off durning #HurricaneIke. I’m still holding out hope the #Halloween stuff I bought from them when we lived there made it through the last ten year! 🤞 The #SpiritBoard I got a few years back DID SURVIVE #HurricaneHarvey!! I found it just this month. I’ve tried to save every catalog I’ve ever gotten because I’m honestly just that in love with everything they have and know I’ll never be able to afford it all! If any of y’all have never heard of this place, I’m very sorry to have given you a new obsession and there is no need to thank me 😉 https://www.instagram.com/p/CG8LEUxlHLq/?igshid=hhq5xfv00jtw
Wow. Feeling old. A few of those #HalloweenMasks I hung up have been packed since #HurricaneIke that hit back in #2008. We got them in #2000 maybe? Here are some photos of me by #AcidInkPhotography taken in #2006 for #AfterDarkJewelry holding the #Devil #Mask. #Halloween2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/CGlmCAolLP-/?igshid=11pvfzmi2r9iz
If y’all are outside waiting for #HurricaneLaura to roll in, PICK UP YOUR YARD! Don’t be that ass that’s gonna let the storm clean your yard. Back in 2008 when #HurricaneIke hit, something smacked the side of our roof and it rolled back like the lid on a can of sardines. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEX_pN1l2ch/?igshid=17scdvch0gnbw
Think I can still get the kids a #VideoNow Player with these @koolaid #KoolPoints? 😂🤔🤣 So I was saving these #KoolAidPoints back in 2008 and they not only survived #HurricaneIke but somehow managed to turn up #TenYears and three houses later after we are finishing up #HurricaneHarvey repairs. So I honestly don’t know if I can’t throw them out now 🤷♀️ #KoolAidKoolPoints #KoolAid #KoolAidPoint #HunnyPotPoint #HunnyPotPoints #VideoNowPlayer https://www.instagram.com/p/B0tx5OcFHUH/?igshid=1gewf4veuolgp

Ten years ago #HurricaneIke completely changed the direction of my life. We had been serious thinking about whether or not to have another baby since Cash had started school that year. But I had also thought so much about going back to school and really just wanted to do something for myself with the new free time I had. Then we lost our roof (Or as Sid said “1/4 of our roof and ¼ of our belongings”) and everything about our lives changed forever. Clockwise: • Our home after Ike. • Sidney and Cash Christmas of 2008. Winter 2009 we got T-Bone instead of having a baby. (February 4, 2009 #LuxInterior died and we decided if we ever did have that baby, we would name it after him) • Spring 2009 we bought our first home. • Fall of 2010 we lost Sunny. She was almost 16 years old and at that point had been with me half my life. • In 2015 Sidney graduated high school! • After 8 years of endless repairs and growing debt, we sold our home. We hated to leave the neighborhood but the last straw was hidden mold growing in one of the outer walls. • In 2017 we bought another home. With an extra bedroom and decide to see if we could try and have the baby we had wanted in 2008. • We lost Lola (The Chola). • On August 27, 2017 #HurricaneHarvey flooded our new neighborhood. By the time it was all over we had our third home in nine years to have water damage, need repairs and felt like we were once again having to start all over again. • August 2018 Cash started high school! • And after nine years, three homes, two hurricanes, twenty five hours, five weeks #Premature and one emergency #Csection on May 11th 2017 Lux Max-Rebel was born.

Overcoming Devastating Circumstances
Overcoming Devastating Circumstances
Back in September 2008 Hurricane Ike hit the Texas Gulf Coast and the Galveston/Houston area. It was probably the worst hurricane to hit in years.
I had moved back to Kansas five months before this happened. We'd been watching the Weather Channel for a few days and I saw the devastation on the news that Friday night and Saturday morning. I couldn't get through to my son or daughter to find out how they were doing after the hurricane. I had seen that the path of some of the worst damage was going right across the area my son lived in. My daughter was seven months pregnant, but she lived on the opposite end of the city- over forty miles away, so I wasn't as worried about her and her family. I was driving back from Joplin, MO from taking a passenger to the airport and had stopped to refuel at the state line when Buck called me, giving me the bad news. A tornado had spawned almost directly over his dojo, resulting in a total loss of almost everything. His description of what had happened painted a picture I couldn't wrap my mind around, no matter how hard I tried. I couldn't stay strong for him, even though I tried. I stood there at the gas pump crying my eyes out, heart breaking for him and all the hard work he had put into the dojo. When he told me that his trophies were torn apart I felt sick to my stomach. He had fought in so many tournaments and the physical rewards were scattered across the building.
I could hardly see the road driving back to town. I cried off and on all day because it just didn't seem fair for him to lose everything like that. All those years of his hard work and this happened to his building. But, within six weeks he had everything back up and running. This just confirmed what I have always known about my son- he is probably the strongest and most dedicated man I have ever known. He had a commitment to his art and he didn't let a major hurricane and tornado landing on his building get him down.
