Two years ago we stumbled on Red Mountain Trading Post in Ouray, Colorado. The gentleman who runs it is about the sweetest man you can imagine - as his “unrules” for the store suggest. He is so personable and made such an impression we've made a point to return to his store as much as we can.
I try to live my life by his unrules. And I decorated the inside of my house (somewhat unwittingly) to mimic the way Red Mountain Trading Post looks inside. I felt so....welcome. Seriously. My bedroom is devoted to a wall of records in honor of the second half of his shop; I've bought many a Dolly Parton album there.
In the summer of 2017, when Nathen and I were in town for Abigail and Duall's wedding, we met at the Red Mountain Trading post, and I was in a bit of an emotional fray. As the proprietor showed me to the restroom (to mop up my mascara) he said - "are you okay?" - and placed the gentlest of hands on my shoulder in camaraderie.
I asked him later on - "How's business?" and he just BEAMED. "Best business ever this year. Last year was the best too. Everyone's coming to Colorado!"
"Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God."
