Something I’ve been meaning to share (below from an instagram post I wrote tonight)…
On August 25th, my 41 year old husband had a stroke. What started as an ordinary Monday morning took a scary turn when Nilay couldn't stop getting sick and started saying stuff that didn't make sense. We were in the ER around noon and by midnight, he was non-responsive in the neuro ICU. He spent two days in a coma and four days on a ventilator. I spent that time imaging that my two year old and seven month old would never remember their father. It was a living nightmare, but I was never alone. From childhood friends to neighbors to co-workers to the amazing people at our kid's daycare, our community stepped up BIG to surround us in love. Nilay spent three weeks in the hospital, two of which were in the ICU, and I stayed with him, leaving our parents to raise our kids for the better part of a month. It was the hardest thing I've ever done. While we don't know for sure what caused the brain bleed, we are focused on creating as healthy a lifestyle as possible and working on rebuilding strength.
Nilay's recovery has been remarkable. It's hard to believe how far he's come in just under nine weeks.
There's so much more I could share, but l'll just say this: If you feel like there's something off about your health or the guidance you're receiving from your provider (s), trust your gut and advocate for yourself. If you feel like you aren't taking care of yourself the way you should be, take control of your health. The people who love you need you here and healthy.
