I cried for an hour in the parking lot
But I didn’t call him
Was that a win?
Am I allowed to win?
still waiting to feel okay again
feeling like I don’t know who I am anymore
feeling everything and nothing at the same time
1 year of marriage! time is scary and often feels like something we are supposed to swim upstream against. but as soon as I met you, the passage of time felt like a pleasant float down the river. maybe because that’s basically how we spent our time. as we quietly enjoyed fishing, hiking, gardening, or stargazing together, I fell in love with your easy approach to the art of living... and with you. even during really chaotic times, you steadied me. this first year, I kept waiting for something to go wrong. and so many things did—but never you, never us. I’m not a physicist, but I do feel like time is relative to frame of reference. when I’m with you, time becomes pleasant, and however long that ends up being, I’m here for it, my hand in your hand.

“The hair series is an unfinished project that documents, the different types of Black hairstyles and hair types. Black hair is known for its different textures, it known because of the simple fact that it stands out from other hair types. I document the different textures of my friend’s hairstyles to emphasize the difference, the close-up shots give a different perspective. It lets the viewer see the different growth pattern or design structure of the hair type or style.” - By Patricia Ellah

I didn’t know that I’ve been trying to learn forgiveness my whole life. For a long time, I thought forgiveness was simply what I was taught to say, “It’s okay.” But when it really wasn’t okay—and that was often—I thought that it was my fault. Forgiveness is so much more complicated than that. Especially when the hurt runs deep and you have to do it over, and over and over again. I will likely always be learning and refining what it means and looks like to forgive, but I have learned a lot over the past weekend. Unfortunately this has also been finals week, so I am mentally and emotionally exhausted. But anyway, this Sunday’s sermon by Grace Bible Church in College Station, TX was so helpful. I really needed to hear it, and I think it’s a great resource.
always.
