One of the most active clubs at Bloomsburg University is the Student United Way, which has strong ties in the community. In fact, for that reason drew the attention of its current president.
Nazeer Curry, a senior anthropology major, joined the organization after already being a member with other campus groups, because he saw it as a great opportunity to get even more involved.
There are more than 250 different ways for students to get involved on and off campus, spanning 12 different interests areas. They include:
“The Student United Way is a great way to help others as well as build personal character and integrity,” said Curry, adding he loves to give back to his community and help others.
Curry says he tutors to help students and build a connection with them. He also encourages his students to join the student United Way. Curry and his club try to get the community involved by setting up activities throughout the year. This past year was the second annual Turkey Trot. “… we raised over $2,000, it was a great feeling,” Curry said.
Among the largest, academic features; Anthropology Club, History Club, The National Broadcasting Society, and The Model United Nations. In this category, you could find what is appealing to your major or even an area that you are interested in and want to learn more about.
The next category is communications, which include; Bloomsburg Literary Journal, BU Now, Obiter, Radio Broadcasting Club (WBUQ) and the Voice. These clubs would be where you can explore your creative communications side. Diving into your writing or your natural radio voice these clubs will put you on the right track.
The following category is Fraternity, which will also tag along with the Sorority category. There are tons of sisterhoods and brotherhoods to choose from. 25 percent of campus is apart of Greek life. Each organization is involved with the Bloomsburg Community completing their service hours.
Another interest area is Governing, which include; C.G.A, Kehr Union Governing Board and much more. In this area of organizations, you will be able to express a political side, and be apart of decisions throughout campus.
The Hall Councils plans activities for the residents in their designated halls. All on campus housing has a hall council.
Honors organizations, such as: Beta Beta Beta, Phi Alpha, and Tau Beta Sigma, all belong to an academic area that recognize and highlight students in those areas.
With the largest category being interests, including, Chess Club, Best Buddies, Gender and Sexuality Alliance, Pokémon Organization, Rock Climbing Club, and so much more. This area is where you will find anything you could be interested in. Some activity, or guilty pleasure that you are truly intrigued in.
With a vast variety of music groups on campus; Gospel Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Maroon and Gold Band, and Dynasty Sounds, the music category will sing to you.
The religious organizations, feature, Hillel, Catholic Campus Ministry, Impact Movement, and much more, are available for student’s faculty and staff to join and have the awareness of spirituality, love, freedom and peace.
The service category, consisting of Colleges Against Cancer, Wishmakers on Campus, and Red Cross Club, is a great area to get involved in, show awareness and help with raising money for a cause.
There are many sports clubs available to you on campus. There is a Scuba Club, Table Tennis Club, Judo Club, and even an Ultimate Frisbee Club. If you enjoy sports, then this category is one you should look into.
With all of these clubs and organizations available it’s important to get involved and join anything you are interested in, according to Curry, adding that joining any club on campus is not only a resume booster, but also allows you to become a better person.
