A smile was on Peggy’s face as she watched her children playing with the other kids in the neighbourhood. Monty had gotten them one of those new footballs without any lacing and they immediately ran off to show their friends, leaving the pair to some much needed rest. Sat on the front porch with her husband, they talked about their days at work, what they wanted to do on the weekend (a trip to the pier sounded fun), and when they didn’t talk, they relaxed together in the peace they were both all too aware of as the world continued to recover from the war. At least it was peaceful until the football came sailing in their direction. It knocked over the tray of lemonade glasses, splashing her and Monty in the process which got a good laugh out of her when she saw the surprised look on her husband’s face.
“Hang on, I’ll go get some towels. Make sure the kids don’t come up here. There’s too much glass.” Retrieving a broom as well for good measure, she turned to go back outside as Monty was coming in, causing a bright glare on the screen door to blind her for a few seconds. The spots slowly clearing from her vision left Peggy with an annoyed look on her face which quickly turned to confusion. The person she expected to be standing in the doorway was not her husband. Looking around, she noticed even the house was different. “What on Earth? Where is my family?”
