Bridgerton in a Pokemon World: Hyareth Rush Hour 🪻🔥🔍
Starring Hyacinth "Leafeon" Bridgerton and Gareth "Raboot" St. Clair.
This is a Hyareth Week combination of Day 1 and Day 5: Fantasy/Sci-Fi Hyareth and Partners in Crime.
Hyacinth is a Leafeon for obvious reasons: she is literally named after a flower! To accentuate it further, I have include a single hyacinth flower bulb on her head which is inspired by this light blue hyacinth below.
Her dress is inspired by the video from the Bridgerton account when season 4 production has wrapped. The dress is so pretty that I decide to implement it to my Hyacinth Leafeon drawing.
Meanwhile, Gareth's clothes are similar to Will Mondrich's outfit from S2 sans the top hat, with his coat a burgundy colour. His waistcoat is green to coincide Hyacinth's grass type. His badge is a wolf and a ruby. The wolf is Italy's national animal, based on the legend of a mother wolf fostering two human sons, Romulus and Remus, with the former founded the capital city of Italy: Rome. As for the ruby, I just add a pop of red as the wolf badge is green and white; the three colours - green, white and red - represents the Italian flag. 🇮🇹 The reason I have include Italian-themed badge on Gareth is that based on Hyacinth's book, It's In His Kiss, his paternal grandmother, Isabella, is Italian. So his ancestry is Italian, most likely southern Italy.
The scene is based on Hyacinth and Gareth on a hunt to find the jewels from his paternal grandmother, Isabella, after reading her diary, which is the main plotline of the book. I also incorporated Rush Hour themes, which I'll explain later.
Hyacinth is the youngest Bridgerton whose curiosity and ability to see the connection between her siblings and their love interests lead to a butterfly effect on them being together; she is a seer. 🤭 In the book, It's In His Kiss, she is a kind person who likes to talk a lot, clever, "always at ease in her own skin", knows "her place in this world" and knows "where she belonged", and can defend herself when needed. Similar to Leafeon who is also gentle and kind. It doesn't really like to battle, but if it has to, it can sharpen its tail and use it to cut through large trees. I'm not sure if Hyacinth likes to sunbathe and photosynthesise though. :))) *inserts photosynthesis song*
Gareth is a Raboot due to his personality and experience as an outsider of the St. Clair family. From the same book, he is described as aloof and nonchalant on the outside. However, he is lost, "spent so much time wondering who he is, where he'd come from" and feels like he couldn't match up with everything. He is emotionally closed off and distant. He doesn't want to connect with anyone after his father despises him for existing, and his brother George, uncle Edward and Isabella all passed away, except Lady Danbury, his maternal grandmother who he still cares about. That is until Hyacinth crash lands on his life and make his life with her exciting and annoying everyday. 😏 Similar to Raboot (or rather Goh's Raboot from Pokemon Journeys, shown below) as it is also aloof and emotionally distant, but will eventually warm up to someone it cares about.
I used speech bubbles a bit similar to manga, but I numbered them so that the reading won't be confusing; its been months since I read manga. Hyacinth's speech "But the jewels! Our plans" is from Ch. 13 and her exclaiming "Gareth!" appears in most of the book. While Gareth's speech is him saying no to Hyacinth everytime she asks him to join her on a jewel scavenger hunt at the St Clairs House. 🤭
Their thought clouds, however, are from the movie Rush Hour starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, my childhood movie (my mum tagged me along with her to watch it on TV; I was laughing more than traumatised so I'm good 😁). Hyacinth and Gareth's antics and personality reminds me of Rush Hour, where Hyacinth is Detective Carter (Tucker) and Gareth is Inspector Lee (Chan).
Hyacinth's thoughts are based on this gif:
While Gareth's are based on this gif (with a few changes as Gareth is not that crass enough to say profanities to a woman; he's respectful):
Although Hyareth season will not appear on the show until years later, their book is my favourite out of all the Bridgerton book series (I confess that I haven't read Gregory's book yet). So I want to contribute to Hyareth Week. :)))
