Hi deary! More dragonbabies please? Maybe MC meeting other dragon hybrids right after their heat and being like 'wow, this is a normal interaction? Huh. I miss the smoking.'
I love you, mwah
Thinking of calling it "Of scales and smoke" let me know what you think.

Seeing you stand there on the tarmac, tired, confused, aching, was torturous for them. If Laswell had had it her way, your would have been gone three hours ago already, but you couldn't even stand on your own two hours ago.
There had been no being pulled into Kyle's lap to be smoked, no neck rubbing or careful scale arrangement, just quick, quiet packing and four grown dragon hybrid how couldn't bare to look you directly in the eyes.
It was panful, but for you, it was agonizing. Could this have felt even more like a rejection? You were being sent away without a word, a glance or the comfort you had grown used to. You were right, they most be disgusted with you. Now you were getting shipped away to be someone else problem.
There was something you couldn't read in John's eyes as stepped up to you and handed you your bag, and he could see the remanence of heat haze and barely disguised pain in yours. There was no words exchanged, just his large hand landing on your shoulder and staying there for a bit. You wish you could lean into the touch longer, fearing it might be the last contact you would have with you ex? Pride leader.
And just like that, without any true goodbye, you were on the plane, going far away from them. The fuzziness had finally left your brain, but the doubt, sadness, and insecurities had returned in full force. So, by the time the plane touched down, you were thoroughly exhausted.
You stepped out to find two people people waiting for you. A human and... wait... was that a Drake?
"¿Laswell nos envió un lagarto volador?" Said Drake ask, although it was clear it wasn't to you he was talking.
"Tú eres el que seguía quejándose de los pájaros, Al. No seas malo." The human answered him.
"No voy a ser malo. Es un jodido lagarto, pero es un lagarto al fin y al cabo." The Drake said again, gesturing towards you, and you had no clue what he was saying.
"Don't mind the Colonel." The human finally addressed you as he stepped closer. "That might not have been polite, but I promise he didn't mean it as an insult."
Great, you thought, but you still had no clue what he had said.
"I'm Sergeant Major Rodolfo Parra." He said, extending a hand for you to shake. "Both Laswell and Price informed us you might be a bit disoriented and drained due to some... que fue lo que dijeron denuevo... special circumstance?... no importan los detalles. Let me show you to your room."
The walk was awkward and silent. You knew you should probably talk to the man, break the ice, get to know him a bit. You were going to be here from now on, after all, you should get to know your new team. But you couldn't get yourself to do it. Not right now at lest.
And with that, you were left alone again, in your new room. You decided that you should at least unpack before passing out. At least figure out what was missing since you hadn't really packed your bag yourself.
To your surprise, as you open your bag, you found two things sitting at the top. One old wool blanket from your nest and a letter. And the smell. God...
The smell of smoke on the blanket is so potent, you don't even know how you didn't notice it before. Not just smoke. Their smoke. All of them. It somehow even smell faintly of Kyle, even if he can't breathe smoke himself. That already almost had you crying, But then you picked up the letter...
"To our direst little Dragonette, hoping you haven't destroyed this before reading it,
I We know we've hurt you. We took you into our Pride, but we didn't treat you with the respect you deserved. We hid things from you, weren't honest, played with your instincts.
We were doing it fo There's noting I could say to justify it. We thought It was selfish of us.
We need you to know you did nothing wrong. And we deeply care about you. You're our ma pridemate, and will still be for as long as you want.
We will If you want, we will have a proper discussion once you're back. No more deflecting, no more omissions, no more lie.
Once you're back. This was always made to be temporary. Your were still a part of the Pride.
You cried yourself to sleep that night, wrapped tightly in the blanket. But for once since your visit to Laswell, your not crying from sorrow.
