A “super-massive” cloud of smoke arrived as predicted, traveling north from California and Oregon. 🔥 🔥 🔥 Natural phenomena and irresponsible actions by clueless people have started some of the fires, but climate change is identified as the driving force for the increase of severe fires. Pew Research (June 2020) found 60 percent of the U.S. public now regards climate change as a major threat. 🔥 🔥 🔥 Two days ago the air quality in Seattle was 76 (moderate) and today it was 155 (unhealthy). It looks like it's foggy, but the temperatures are warm and the fog never lifts. The smell of smoke hangs in the air. 🔥 🔥 🔥 There is concern for everyone’s safety, but people are not trusted to use their own common sense about staying indoors. If you check the weather app on your iPhone, the first thing before the temperature is “Very unhealthy air quality.” On Androids, there is an air-quality alert. The visible smoke, the news, and weather apps warn us. 🔥 🔥 🔥 The city wants to protect people from themselves. The poor air quality prompted an edict today from Seattle Parks about the immediate closure of outdoor recreation areas and curb-side pick up at the public libraries. (Not quite sure how libraries factor into this?) Maybe people will stay inside if the city removes temptations. 🔥 🔥 🔥 The whole world has gone slightly insane because of the pandemic, social injustices and now climate change. 🔥 🔥 🔥 Guys, if you think climate change is a pressing issue, voice your concerns with your elected officials.
