working at a vet sounds like a mix of awesome and horrible :
pretty much. on one hand, i learn about soo much and puppies! kittens! hanging out with animals all day 10/10 A+ and i mean, the majority of our clients are really nice people. but you get these weird outliers that just should NOT be owning animals (or more often, just have zero manners/patience) and it just puts a stink on what would otherwise be a happy day. hoping it goes back to being mostly good again soon :>

OMG CRIES....YOURE TOO NICE!!!!
i don't know if you're the person to askthis but idk another good science bloge to ask wah ?_? so i know there's neoteny - but is there the opposite of that, for old age?
For those who don’t know, neoteny is a type of paedomorphosis where an animal retains certain juvenile physical or behavioral traits into adulthood. For example, dogs are considered neotonized wolves (their floppy ears and puppyish personalities, for example, make them resemble wolf pups more than adult wolves) and axolotls are neotonized salamanders because they resemble salamander larvae.
I'm not totally sure whether you're asking if there's a phenomenon that makes animals undergo old age (senescence) sooner in life or... well, I think the question was probably hard to phrase. But early onset of senescence is not the opposite of neoteny- in fact, it could be argued that some neotenic animals also undergo senescence earlier if they live shorter lives than their non-neotenic counterparts!
Senescence is not really an evolutionary advantage; rather, the prevailing theory is that the symptoms that plague us when we get close to the end of our lives are evolutionary baggage pushed there by selection for good health during our prime breeding years. I've talked about this a little before but I can't be arsed to dig up the post... In essence, selection for earlier old age is just selection for a shorter lifespan (which can happen!)
However! There is such a thing as the opposite of neoteny, though it may not look like what you think it does. Let’s peer into the world of developmental biology for a moment with a discussion of heterochrony.

have you tried a monoprice? you probably have since they’re cheap but it’s what i use and it’s really good!
I have not! I've been using wacom brand tablets. The three wacom tablets I've had that were under the $900 range have given me more trouble than they're worth - that could be bitterness from personal trial and error talking lol but I guess I get what I pay for. ^-^;
I'm going to look into monoprice though! Thanks! Maybe it is time I switch it up a bit. :)
HEY i'm wondering, do you know of any studies or documentaries or just info about children of survivors of the holocaust, and how it effects them, psychologically?
My background is primarily in sociology so I'm not very familiar with psychological studies.
i'm so happy about hyenor's art of Vimbo that i actually embedded it into the chapter it comes from
so get this in over 180,000 words of this stupid talking dog story with fighting and tragedy and eating questionable meat the only illustration that pops up in ALL THIS TEXT is of a god damn hyena lying on a pink god damn bed and i'm DELIGHTED
