Happy birthday to my good friend @polsterreich !!
Here's her character Eric, sullenly looking at the sea. I wonder what's got him so worried...?

31!
31. Look at the country you are currently living in. If they are an official Hetalia character, how do you feel about that character, as well as the country itself?
I live in Australia, and while there really isn’t much canon material on him, from what there is he’s pretty cool and gets up to the kind of shit that fun loving people who live around here would do. I feel like we would have a similar sense of humour and we’d be pretty good friends. While I know my country isn’t perfect and some of the things happening here are messed up, I do truly love Australia.
Hei! I love your blog and have been stalking it for a while, especially since I got a place in a study exchange in Germany! Since then I've been learning German and about the German culture and found your blog an excellent resource. I have one question regarding the German language if you don't mind me asking: what is the different between bereit and fertig ? And how would I use them in different context? Thanks in advance. Greetings from Poland!
bereit = ready (to do something), prepared, willing
fertig = finished (with doing something); derived from that comes its side meaning of ready in the sense of ‘I have finished my preparations and am now ready to do something’.
If you want to ask if somebody is ready to do something, e.g. to lift a heavy object, you can ask “Bist Du bereit?”, and he will answer “Ja, ich bin bereit.” or “Nein, ich bin noch nicht bereit.”
If you want to ask if somebody has prepared himself e.g. for going for a walk in the cold, it is more common to ask “Bist Du fertig?”, and he will answer “Ja, ich bin fertig.” of “Nein, ich bin noch nicht fertig.”, although the phrasing using ‘bereit’ would not be wrong, either.
If you want to ask if somebody has finished doing a task, e.g. washing the dishes, you have to ask “Bist Du fertig?”, and he will answer “Ja, ich bin fertig.” or “Nein, ich bin noch nicht fertig.” In this case, using ‘bereit’ would be wrong because he is not ready to do something, but has finished doing something.
‘Bereit’ and ‘fertig’ in its usage in example 2 is often replaced with “so weit” in colloquial German, especially: “Bist Du so weit?” – “Ja, ich bin so weit.” or “Nein, ich bin noch nicht so weit.”
‘Fertig’ can also mean ‘to be completely exhausted’, often phrased as ‘fix und fertig’: “Ich bin eben 5 Kilometer gelaufen, und nun bin ich (fix und) fertig.”

Moving to Edinburgh??? Really?? We'll be living closer than before! It's probably due to my unresistable awesome attraction
Are you here?? *waves out the window* I haven't moved though -- I'm just one of those awful English folk here for the Fringe, doing my artsy thing (playing piano for an improv show!)
I love the city though - I've been here on a more normal/non-Fringe occasion as well and I just really like it here, if I had to move somewhere this would be a contender.
