So, the day I was properly diagnosed as intersex (they discovered my PUGS), I had been refused from the urgent care on the basis of them believing I was having a possible uterine prolapse and insisting I go to the ER immediately (they only had the briefest look). I did not have a uterine prolapse (I had no concerns that this was possible, let alone Happening, and the doctor who saw me laughed at the idea that I could have because I am in none of the at-risk groups).

They said that what they saw was just my hymen, however, I haven’t found any photos or diagrams that seem to depict a similar type of hymen. Recently you have been talking a lot about hymen variations, so I thought I would send an ask. I will attempt to describe the appearance now, but I figured I’d open with that story so you got an idea of how visibly atypical it is.

I think it looks most similar to some pictures of “fimbriated” hymens, but there aren’t many. Or similar to the pattern seen in a tied-off balloon. The color is starkly different (lighter) than the surrounding tissue, almost a white pink color (most of my genitalia is a very dark color). There is a great deal of excess tissue which rests outside of the vaginal opening. None of the drawings from your sleeve hymen guide appear extremely similar, though I have a feeling it may fall into this category? The tissue also does not feel much like how I have seen hymen tissue described (it is not very soft/elastic like I have read it usually is) but rather more similar to the surrounding tissue.

If it is relevant, also, various things have happened that could have caused physical damage to it in the past, but I also have heard basically any amount of being alive can cause damage to hymens.

This does sound quite a bit like a sleeve hymen. The hymen protruding outwards in any sense would be a sleeve hymen, as sleeve hymens describe exactly that - a hymen that is like a sleeve around the vaginal entry.

It could be that you have a fimbriated sleeve hymen! Both things can exist simultaneously.

PS - those diagrams are by no means the finished product for our upcoming project, and are very simplified in a lot of ways. They were just a shittily-made sketch lol. Not to mention that its very unlikely any one diagram would be a true match to most humans, since genital tissue can look so different on each individual. The diagrams are just a reference point.

hi,,, i have a question about my own body, it seems youre ok with those ! If not you dont have to answer but i would love if i could have some help ^-^

i have a vulva, vagina, whole shebang, that would be expect of a perisex mulleripathian (is that the right word)

however i was looking because i couldnt find my urethra in the center where it should be, i think it is lower like right above the top of the vaginal opening. (not inside, but right above)

the point of this ask though is that im not sure, i cant properly tell where both openings are, where my vaginal opening ends and begins.. because there are a bunch of folds on top of my vaginal entrance, that cover both my vagina hole and my urethra hole unless i part it with my fingers. i presume this is my hemen. is that a sleve hymen? Im realizing looking at pics of typical vaginas that other people can just see their hole by default and dont need to part a bunch of (presumably) hymen folds to see it.. and does having just one (or maybe 2 idk about my urethra) intersex trait make one intersex?

Oh, hello! If you haven't already seen this post, you really should! But yes, if your hymen buries your vagina to such an extent, that is most definitely intersex! And if it physically folds outward, that is sleeve hymen.

It is interesting that it buries your urethra as well, is that because your urethra is low (vulvar hypospadias)? Or is it because the folds simply protrude high enough to cover it? Either way, sounds like a clear cut case of sleeve hymen to me.

Any number of intersex traits makes you intersex! Whether it is one trait or a dozen, it doesn't matter. There is no person who is more intersex than another.
