Hypnosis Is Not Magic

Hypnosis is not magical. But the harm it can cause is very real.

You don’t need “mystical mind control” to abuse someone in trance. All it takes is:

Playing with their thoughts.

Making them doubt their own reality.

Deceiving them.

Leading them to do or believe things that go against their deepest values.

Acknowledging this is not claiming hypnosis is a superpower. It’s recognizing that it is a powerful tool of influence. And like any powerful tool, in the wrong hands, it can cause harm.

The Only Antidote: Full, Conscious Consent (Before, During, After)

In any power dynamic—and hypnosis creates one—especially in kink or edge-play contexts, the ONLY antidote to abuse is:

Full, conscious consent. At every stage.

BEFORE: Clear negotiation, without pressure, with real information. DURING: Continuous attention, check-ins, and a genuine ability to stop. AFTER: Care (aftercare), processing, and the freedom to say “I didn’t like this” without being invalidated.

This is not “being dramatic.” It’s basic safety. It’s fundamental care.

And I’m tired of seeing how often this is ignored, minimized, or treated as if talking about it were “casting shadows” on hypnosis.

Talking about risks doesn’t weaken the practice. It shows enough respect for it to take it seriously.

The Myth of Total Control vs. The Reality of Violated Consent

Hypnosis does not grant “total control.” But it does provide enough influence to create situations where:

✅ An initial “yes” was given. ❌ But the full scope of what happened—or its aftereffects—was not consented to.

That gray area, that “I didn’t really know what I was getting into” space, is where much of the harm happens.

And when someone denies that this is possible—intentionally or not—they are engaging in victim blaming. They are saying: “If it happened, you must have wanted it.” And that is a cruel lie.
