While there were developed communities of well-known camps, as Jongin liked to refer to them as ‘the treacherous three’ - Haesong, Kangwon and Cheodong, there were also other smaller groups of survivors who chose not to follow the crowd. They stayed in the freezone, and though lower in manpower, it was much easier to coordinate tasks and manage the overall system. These groups were a lot easier to approach as well, and the brunette wasn’t necessarily close enough to join any of them, but he was sufficiently well-acquainted to frequently trade weaponry, or help with missions assigned to him. It worked out, and both sides got what they wanted.
He arrived at one of the groups’ hideouts nearby his own residence, one he frequented at least once a week. Their leader had requested Jongin to drop by because he had a “challenging” task at hand for him to handle. The boy had absolutely no clue of what to expect, but his missions usually consisted of him either infiltrating other camps for supplies, so he assumed this would be no different.
What he absolutely didn’t expect, however, was for someone to be joining him on the mission.
Jongin stood in the headquarters, mouth slightly ajar as the leader introduced him to a complete stranger standing next to him. She was petite, with long dark hair tied back in a ponytail, and looked just about as taken aback as he was. The male couldn’t even catch her name-.. He was too caught up in the fact he was going to have to protect someone else, as if keeping himself alive wasn’t enough trouble. “She’s gonna be there to patch you up,” he stated indifferently. “You’re going to need her, so be nice to each other.”
He supposed first impressions were important, especially if it was someone he was going to work with. Not that he cared. Folding his arms, he raised an eyebrow at his employer, and while he probably sounded like a total bitch, it was better to be truthful than to suffer in silence.
“I can take care of myself. She’ll be nothing but dead weight.”
