OP of the previous post is correct, there's a lot of good Hyur lore in the setting because the writers care a lot about world building. Meanwhile here's my grumpy old lady doing this for too long hot take:
Anyone who defaults to "humans in fantasy/scifi are boring" doesn't know how to create actually compelling characters and stories. Full stop.
I love elves, catpeople, birdpeople, aliens, etc. much as the next SFF fan, but extra body parts alone do not a "cooler character" make.
The vast majority of our media history, made up of entirely human characters, stands against that assertion that "humans are boring" all by itself.
And 90% of the time writers/roleplayers with such opinions end up writing said elves/cats/birds/aliens/etc as just (unconvincingly, unrealistic) human anyway, maybe (often) with offensive stereotypes (bestial-tribal is a big one) thrown on and with disregard for the actual worldbuilding and lore of the setting and how it treats those fantasy/alien races.
Because again, if one immediately goes to "humans are boring" then I don't believe that person is actually paying attention to the story, nor what lore makes those other races actually unique and interesting besides "ears and tails!"
