“I’m like the Alderaan of people.”
Echoes of Oblivion B99 (original)
I saw on silentcartoon's blog she drew a witch that's your dnd character? she looks so cool!!! could you tells us some stuff about her?
Yeah she did an amazing job on Hyza (that’s the character’s name btw). I’ve been wanting to get her drawn for like forever and Tanya really listened to what I wanted and drew Hyza like how I’ve always envisioned her. I’m pretty sure Tanya’s still holding commissions if you want to check that out. Ok I’m going to give out some info on Hyza under the cut because I don’t want to bog down anyone’s feed so here we go
So Hyza is a human woman and her class is Witch. Witch in Pathfinder is basically the Warlock class from D&D. Witches make a pact with a spirit, demon, god, deity, or entity and that’s where they get their magic from. In our campaign I decided to make it canon that when a witch makes a pact with their patron they go through a physical change. In Hyza’s case her hair turned white, her eyes turned red, and her skin darkened slightly more than what it already was. Every transformation is different depending on the being you make a contract with. Her patron goddess was Orokoma which was a goddess I created. She was a goddess of night, magic, witches, and the elements.
Hyza’s backstory was she used to be the daughter of farmers. Her family’s farm was going through some tough times and the crops just weren’t coming in. Her mother died first from sickness and lack of food when Hyza was about eight.. Her older brother followed shortly after and her father died on his way to sell off what little else they had leaving her alone in the world. She lived on the streets for about a year or so before seeing a coven of witches being called forth to aid in a curse removal on the mayor’s son. I wanted witches to be more like the Discworld witches, meaning I wanted them to be looked on as a necessity instead of being inherently evil. In our universe witches were easier, cheaper, and a bit more reliable to hire on than say wizards. Witches could be employed by the towns or maybe you had to seek them out but either way there were as many good witches, if not more so, than “evil” ones.
Anyway the coven left and Hyza followed them to their camp in the west woods. They tried to turn her away because they didn’t accept initiates so young but the leader of the coven, Granny (so called because she was the oldest, though she didn’t look it, and her real name was too long and hard to pronounce) allowed Hyza to stay with the coven. Hyza started training, learning the basics of magic and if she were to complete her studies within the next year she would be accepted into the group. She, of course, did and made her pact with the goddess cementing her role as a witch. I also added in that witches would chose new names when they made a contract only sharing their true name with people they trusted. There is a thing in magic that if you know something’s true name you can have power over it. Hyza was her mother’s name which is what she chose. She would gain a familiar that she would name Bartrend and he was an adorable little weasel. A bit down the road she would join another group, the Arkadas Company, which would serve as her guild, home, and second family.
Hyza was in her early to mid twenties. I think we started off she was twenty-one or twenty-three and I think about a year or so had gone by when we ended that game so she was maybe twenty-six then. I always said she was a lesbian but as time went on Hyza never really pursued a romantic relationship so I think that maybe she was asexual homo-romantic. She had two canon girlfriends that made an appearance. Razah, a pansexual Pirate, who she didn’t really get all that far with due to time constraints and to Hyza making some bad decisions with necromancy. And then there was Mari, an Alchemist, who broke up with Hyza because she couldn’t handle with “witch stuff”. Hyza was really vague about it and this was mostly due to the fact that I fell out of love with the idea of having an alchemist girlfriend but I think now that maybe Mari didn’t want an asexual girlfriend and that’s what caused the rift. Had the game continued there was an Orc Bard that was the Company’s secretary that Hyza was rather fond of and I think maybe something could have formed from there.
Hyza was very dry, quick-witted, and smart. She did not open up to people easily. It took a while for the other characters to get to know her but she was able let down some walls and become really close with them. Hyza also loved magic and studied constantly. She was the magical expert of the group and would always have her head in a book in her free time. She got called paranoid a bit with her cautious attitude and her need to want to add several layers of protection to herself before going into a fight. Hyza wouldn’t look for trouble, she would try to find the easiest way out for herself but she could be coerced into helping, especially if someone was being treated unfairly.
And that’s pretty much Hyza. She was a fun character to play but we’ve since then started a new game and I have a Cleric and a Rouge now which is a huge change from her but it’s still a lot of fun.
Look, Kham, I just gave you the $2.00 treatment. You're not worth a first-class Sithing. (x)
