You did this to me @shinelikedew (/lh), my 2018 HyzenthClover hyperfixation is in full swing so I made a playlist
A playlist for the ship Hyzenthlay x Clover in the 2018 Watership Down miniseries!
Feel free to send me more song suggestions in the replies/reblogs/tags and I’ll add them!
Her me out. Hyzenthlay x Clover but it’s they’re 1978 movie designs
I LOVE it!!
I had to make an edit <3
Give us some head cannons about the hutch rabbits! (Please.)
Oh I like this, this is a great opportunity to think about them!
Bookverse:
We only know bits and snatches of personality (Clover is strong and active, Boxwood is polite, Haystack is timid) so I'll expand on that. Clover, as she adjusts to the wild, becomes very curious and adventurous. She's an active member of the warren and often advises the others on human-related things. Boxwood is rather serious, orderly, straightforward, and slightly fussy. Haystack remains a quiet homebody, but is also very sweet and always happy to hear about Clover's adventures. Laurel is very fussy and nervous and mostly wanted to escape because it's what the others were doing.
If they were humans, I'd picture Clover as casually sporty with shortish fluffy hair, Boxwood as a nerd type with thick-rimmed glasses, and Haystack as a cute chubby goth girl.
Boxwood, Clover, and Haystack all become good friends with Strawberry because he knows what it's like to adjust to the life of a "real" wild rabbit, and he helps them without being condescending. (The others don't mean to be condescending, but it sometimes comes through because they don't quite understand the hutch rabbits' experiences.)
Sometimes, Hazel goes to the shed to visit Laurel while he's raiding the garden at Nuthanger. Laurel's doing all right, but he is rather lonely and Hazel's visits mean a lot to him. For a very long time the escaped hutch rabbits aren't strong/confident enough to raid the farm and visit, but eventually Clover does one day.
Clover is the reproductively dominant doe at Watership because she bore the first litter there and, as a domestic rabbit, she can have litters any time of year. I don't mean an aggressive sort of dominance, only that she's very highly respected.
Hutch stories are different from wild rabbits' stories. Cunning is still emphasized, but it's more oriented towards silly pranks than actual survival. The "El-ahrairah" figure in hutch stories morphed into a different kind of hero, most well known for getting man to look after some rabbits. He has a different name too because hutch rabbits are safe from enemies. All three of the escaped rabbits, but especially Clover, were amazed and deeply touched to hear the wild El-ahrairah stories.
Clover and Laurel weren't mates. Haystack and Boxwood are very closely bonded and stay together (and are honestly sorta joined at the hip). Clover and Holly aren't really exclusive--Clover has lots of boyfriends lol.
Clover and Haystack are BESTIES FOREVER and in the 2002 radio play they're GIRLFRIENDS. (ok that's 2002 radio verse but still)
Rabbits that live in hutches have names that are more associated with domestic things because that's what they know! Clover is often found on lawns, haystacks are a specifically human thing, and boxwood and laurel are common ornamental hedges in yards and gardens. Hutch rabbits kept completely inside might just be named after human objects or flowers you could find in a vase, because they wouldn't know any wild plants. There are pet rabbits out there named things like Carpet and Windowsill.
Miniseries:
Clover had never seen a wild rabbit before she met Hazel. She falls for him mostly because she's enamored with that idea of freedom he represents.
Clover stays super close with Hyzenthlay and Thethuthinnang! Inseparable trio for real, they survived the horrors together 😭
Clover also learns to sing from them! She was absolutely amazed by the strength and hope of Thethuthinnang's song and is so excited to learn <3
Haystack and Strawberry are besties <3 I saw them talking to each other:
Haystack also thinks Hyzenthlay is SO COOL but is too shy to talk to her 😭
and clover and hyzenthlay are in love. who said that on my canon compliant post
Thanks for the ask! This was fun ^-^
HyzenthClover icons?
YAYYY THE GIRLS!!!
Clover, thinking about Hyzenthlay: I saw a doe so beautiful I started crying. Hazel: It’s all right, Clover. You’re perfect the way you are. Clover: I’m not jealous, Hazel, I’m GAY.
