Roy (ロイ) and Fuecoco (ホゲータ) - Pokemon (2023) - Episode 13

Spinel in casual clothes! He appears to wear rather professional clothing, which is similar to Amethio in HZ001. Spinel walks around with his Blacky too (meanwhile Amethio didn't show up with his Soulblades at Liko's school). He was already shown with his Pokemon outside of his Pokeball in his base while he was spying in HZ012, so it seems like he is just always spending time with his partner? They seem to have a close bond.

And I will continue to gush over how Spinel and Amethio contrast each other really well. Spinel in casual clothes changes his hairstyle and hides behind glasses. One wears a kind of disguise, the other always appears as he is (Amethio doesn't try to change his appearance the way Spinel does). One is deceptive, the other is straightforward. One doesn't reveal himself and remains hidden, the other reveals his name and identity. One acts alone, the other has subordinates. Amethio is more of a chivalrous knight (he seems to have this theme going on, with his Pokemon too) and wants a honorable battle with his opponent keeping his eyes on him. Spinel sends his Pokemon to corner and deal with Friede without showing up to face him himself (and Spinel seems to trust his Pokemon to carry out their respective roles, which is interesting that they all seem to be very in sync and work well together). The way they both operate so differently is really interesting to pick apart.

Oh yeh, this friday had special sparkles for anipoke calendar that shows air dates. Guess we'll finally be able to learn what it means 👀 Extra important episode? Special preview? Special news? *ponders*

I just know I'm still very much enjoying Horizons and despite usually finding recaps odd, a small recap session after two week break for a plot-driven series felt fine for me. And I like how it emphasized on the found family aspect of the team. Kids growing and adults noticing it.

I fricking loved the dialogue where Friede says something along the lines of "they're growing" and Murdock, as a silly act, says "the suit doesn't look bigger" (or was it other way around, my mwmory ain't in it's best condition atm) shsvsjjsjsjsksk they are so great. So great.

I'm starting to see Orio's personality as well, with her being the one to model Landau's ship to flying.

I'm just... really glad to be enjoying this :D

I like when Liko and Roy have their own thing going on during episodes. I also really enjoy that they often catch up with each other at the end of episodes and tell the other what happened to them? I'm thinking of scenes like the ones at the end of HZ008 (Roy and Liko catching up, Roy telling Liko he battled a wild Pokemon and Liko telling Roy that she got into trouble with the Mawhip) or at the end of HZ010 (Liko sharing her thoughts and impressions with Roy, telling him that she felt that Colza's sculpture looked sad to her). They aren't necessarily always together and they have their own stuff going on sometimes, but I like how they catch up when they can. I just really like the way their friendship is done so far.

Also, it's nice to see that Roy's growth (becoming more discerning with Pokemon) is acknowledged, like Liko and Dot's. Roy is curious about Kaiden and can't leave it alone so he wants to go check on it again.

Friede is also trusting Roy not to stay out too late. Roy's grandfather entrusted him with Roy's safety, so Friede is often with Roy in general (for example in HZ008, Roy followed Friede when they bought groceries), but I think there are times Friede lets Roy wander a bit if it seems safe. The area they are at doesn't seem too big (and it's not like it's a forest) so I guess Roy won't get lost in this kind of place.
