Two local breweries tonight.
First was Town Hall Station. It’s actually a suburban “sister” restaurant of Town Hall Brewery of Minneapolis. The “Station” part of the name comes from the building, It used to be a Mobil gas and service station.
It’s a block away from where Baskin Robbins Ice Cream used to be. When we were kids my siblings and I would beg my parents to stop at that BR on the way home from the city pool. We went to that pool a lot. We didn’t always get ice cream cones on the way home.
Sheila and I enjoyed our meal at Town Hall. With any burger or sandwich you can substitute fruit, soup, chili, or wild rice hot dish for an up-charge in lieu french fries. I had the hot dish, despite the hefty $4 addition to the tab.
It was worth it. In fact, I could have made a meal out of that wild rice hot dish.
The restaurant charges a 3.99% fee for credit card purchases. I get it. Times are tough. However, it messes with the whole cash-back thing on credit cards. If I pay an extra fee at the restaurant, it more than negates any cash back program. I’m ready to start paying cash again. And don’t think I won’t use this opportunity to get rid of more coins.
On the way home we stopped at the brewery where our first beer is always free. (We were part of the crowd sourcing.)
Sheila had a seltzer that was very flavorful. Many seltzers are like LaCroix water, with a distant “hint” of flavor. See that black and white picture of a lemon tree? That’s how flavorful this is!
However this place didn’t have enough equipment to brew multiple flavors of seltzer. So they make a plain version and flavor it with various Torani Syrups. Sheila’s peach seltzer tasted like it was made with five fresh peaches (and maybe five tablespoons of pure cane sugar). I will stick to beer, thank you very much.
This brewery has a note posted that a credit card “convenience fee” will be added to all tabs. The problem here though is this place doesn’t take cash. So the “convenience” description bugs me.
