I’ve never met a vegan who has more smoke for native people and poor hunters (who, as you say, often don’t have a choice) than for, like… factory farms that literally torture the animals (which everyone can and SHOULD boycott). I’m sure that scumbag racist vegans exist, because there are scumbag racists in every social justice movement that isn’t specifically about race. I’ve just never met one who’s like that, even though they’re used as an excuse for people to hate vegans aaaaaaaall the time. There are more indigenous vegans than anti-indigenous white vegans. Hell, the fastest-growing vegan demographic is Black folks.
The vegan thought process is simple and logical. Animals have thoughts, feelings, autonomy, and consciousness; therefore, one should try to avoid harming or exploiting them (and if that is not practical, harm them no more than you need to for survival). Putting that belief system on the same level as “people of color are inherently lesser than white people” or “trans people shouldn’t have agency over their own medical care unless they can prove they suffer enough” is unhinged.
And you say religious vegans are fine, but religious veganism IS an ideological and moral thing, too. Jainism and some sects of Buddhism, Hinduism, contemporary paganism, etc. frown on meat consumption because animals are thought to have souls which imbue them with value. Religious beliefs inform people’s morals. Your distinction is arbitrary.
Yeah it is arbitrary, but that arbitration is there because of my experience. those who are vegan for religious reasons rarely go on long tangents randomly while talking to you about why you should be vegan, non religous ones do. im not reading most of that, and dont fucking whitsplain " there more native vegans than anti-native white vegans!!!11!1" to me, a native man. and white people aren't the only ones who can be racist, especially to indigenous folk. fuck out my face.
