Lit candles greet him on every surface of his dorm, illuminating little golden pools all over the desks and sidetables and windowseats.

Henry had slept in today, and taken the last of his make-up exams, and before that, was deep in review of his summer course notes. He has plans to meet up with his tier one (…Brandon) and tier two (the rest of his lacrosse buddies) friends during the weekend, which his birthday, sadly, did not fall upon naturally, this year.

He coasts around the curtain-covered section of his bed, dropping his books to the floor nearest the windowseat, and curving the remainder, until he finds the only open space of the four sides.

"Happy birthday!"

He drinks in the raw-boned beauty of her face, a flush over her complexion and sparkle over her black eyes, and trails his gaze downwards, where it snags on the familiar shape and colour and shine of his lacrosse jersey, and settles to the place where its hem clings, delectably, to the juncture of her sleek thighs.
