This is part of my 100,000 word celebration for the Birds of Different Feathers series. I will be writing 10 drabbles about what I affectionately call Virgil’s Friends Don’t Get Dead Training. In what ways will the ex-assassin, Virgil, teach his found family to not die and how will they react? Find out here!

The Birds of Different Feathers series consists of two major stories: Little Kestrel and Kill Dear. Both are stand alone, if connected and these drabbles mostly will happen between Little Kestrel and Kill Dear.

“Awareness training!”

Patton startled awake as something large landed on top of him. “Noooo,” he groaned without even opening his eyes.

“Yes!” Virgil proclaimed.

“It’s sleep time,” he lamented.

“Assassins don’t wait for the daytime.”

“Yeah, I’ve noticed,” Patton grumbled.

Patton felt hands gently touch his neck and scrunched up his nose; they were cold. “I’m strangling you,” Virgil informed him. “What do you do?”

Patton peaked opened one eye. “Die I guess,” he said tiredly.

“No!”

“Virgil it’s the middle of the night. I’m tired.”

“Assassins don’t care. Now apprehend me.”

“…Can I use the cookie sheet?” he grumbled.

This is all for my personal design of an older Dib! He is referred to as Dib Zero for plot reasons. Top image is the very first time I took a stab at the design. Second are all the references I used for the older versions of Dib in ‘Dib’s Wonderful Life of Doom’. Tried to pick and choose aspects from his outfits to make something cohesive without going overboard. I was going for a ‘space traveler meets action hero’ vibe. Last two are fleshing out the design more and making changes where I felt they were needed.

That top image is also the first time I drew a Vortian!
