Was going through my libreoffice and found this snippet I'm really proud of the character work on
Concept: Maskless, Mohawk and Sinister kidnap William during the Markapocalypse
I looked through the villian wiki for these guys backstory… im not doing all that. Mohawks not an emperor. His backstory will come up at somepoint but that’s not it. Just fyi. Also, I cannot see william in his internal monologue calling sinister ‘sinister’, so he’s the hornet until further notice.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He wanted to sleep in, okay? Sue him. He had just gotten dumped, well. Not dumped. More like very gently lowered to the ground with regretful love and care. Either way, he was heartbroken, and tired, and wanted to partake in the tried and true college kid tradition of sleeping until noon. So he stayed up until early in the morning, switching between scrolling mindlessly and staring at photos of him and Rick together. By the time he did wake up, it was 2pm, to the sound of breaking glass right next to his head.
He jolted awake, hair in his eyes, squinting as-
“I told you motherfuckers he’d be in this one! Shoulda listened to me the first time-”
His best friend, who had shaved his hair into a skullhawk since the last time William had seen him, adorned his face with mutiple glints of metal, and covered himself in blood, hovered in the air between the twin beds, staring at him with a wolfish grin. William pushed himself up onto his elbow, rubbing his eyes, “Mark, lovingly, what the f-” before he could even finish the word, he was scooped out of bed by Mark, who contorted himself quickly to get them both back out the-hole-where-his-window-used-to-be.
“Sorry babe, but we’re already late” That’s when William saw the two other figures flying beside them, and the blood that covered all three. One of them wore the old yellow and blue costume of Marks, minus the mask, and stared at William like he was looking at the rotting corpse of a loved one. The other wore a yellow and black version of marks current costume, with the addition of a yellow cape, and was grinning in satisfaction.
Williams stomach dropped, and sweat pricked all over his back. His first instinct was to run, to push away from the chest he as being cradled against, but the distance from the pavement, and the stares from the copies of his best friend currently shooting into the stratosphere kept him in place.
William liked flying, okay? It was, like, the coolest thing a person could do. But doing it first thing in the morning, with two guys that looked like his best friend, and a third that wore a suit similar to his, was just a little too much for his brain to take in. A headache stabbed at his temple while he stared open-mouthed at the three figures, all identically tilted forward as they flew top speed. He instinctively ducked his head down behind the Mohawk guys shoulder, so his head was pushed against his chest from the wind pressure instead of off his neck. The one with the mask on and the one that looked the most like real Mark both stared at him, while the one holding him bridal style looked ahead, shit eating grin never wavering.
“What. The. Fuck”
Maskless stared at him sadly, while the Hornet-looking dude grinned, showing off white teeth with long, pointy canines, “It’s a lot to take in huh? Absolute perfection?” He laughed again when Williams eyebrows furrowed in disgust.
“As if! Why are three copies of my best friend kidnapping me on a random Tuesday? Did Cecil drop you into a Hadron Collider or something?” He crossed his arms over his chest, very aware of the fact the only thing he had on were pajama pants, a thin tank top and embarrassing fuzzy socks as the cold air hit him. “Cause I am NOT doing the ‘Mark look at me, this isn’t you’ bit. I refuse on grounds of lameness” His hands were shaking, feeling the raw power in the muscles currently holding him hundreds of feet in the air, the ones that tore him out of his bed in his locked stone brick dorm room without breaking a sweat.
Hornet and Mohawk laughed while Maskless managed to summon a soft smile from the seemingly unending depths of his unexplained melancholy. Mohawks eyebrow, lip and ear piercings glinted in the midday sun, the silver ball at the center of his tongue doing the same when he spoke, “Nah babe, this deformed testicle, Angstrom something-”
“ANGSTROM LEVY? He tried to kill Marks-my Marks- Mom and little brother!”
“Little brother?” All three replied in unison, eyebrows or the place where their eyebrows should be furrowing.
“Oliver? Little purple guy? Kind of an asshole? Result of Omnidouche cheating with some alien?” There wasn’t enough space between his body and Mohawk Mark’s chest to properly cross his arms, so they stayed bundled together, resting against his collarbones. It did not help him feel in control of the situation in the slightest. All three clones frowned and shook their heads. Maskless whispered,
“Dad has a bastard?”
But Mohawk cut in before he could continue, “Yeah, well, he brought us here, so we gotta go meet him before we shack up.”
“No! You don’t get it, morons, my Mark did something on accident to Angstrom, and if he’s mad enough to make all of you, and try to kill Oliver, then he’s totally mad enough to kill me!” William smacked at Mohawks chest, anxiety mounting as he recognized the outskirts of his home town below them. That got them to stop, hovering over the busy highway. Honks rang out below them as drivers spotted the hovering figures and tried to evacuate in fear. “And unlike you, I’m all squishy and killable.”
“Yeah you are-” the hornet leered,
“Plus, what the fuck do you mean ‘shack up’?”
“There’s a bunker out west, we’re going to take you there until this is all over, then try to find a safe place to live.” Maskless replied, speaking softly.
“Why?!”
“So you don’t get hurt, things are gonna get dangerous out here”
“No, I mean why are you taking me? Is this part of Angstrom’s plan?”
Mohawk scoffed, “Hell no. On the ride here we all realized we agreed to help Angstrom because we wanted you back. So we agreed to work together to keep you away from the other ones, ‘cause we don’t know if Angstrom is actually gonna follow through”
Maskless raised his eyes to meet Mohawk’s “We could just go now, then. We got what we wanted, and I don’t feel like killing more people today” William couldn’t help but scoff, opening his mouth to reply, but the hornet spoke first.
“Follow me then” and they were off again, going to the right of the way they came. “And William,” he turned his head, midday sun shining off his goggles “we’re not clones, we’re different versions of Invincible from different dimensions”
“Okay, whatever! WHY are three alternate versions of my best friend taking me to some crazy apocalypse bunker?”
The hornet raised the yellow ridge where his eyebrow was hidden by his mask, and William could tell, through the goggles and mask, that he was being looked at like a moron. William scowled. There was no situation where Mark Grayson should be looking at him like he knew more about a topic than him. Unless the topic was Seance Dog trivia, which William made sure it never was.
“He just told you, so you don’t get hurt. Angstrom is trying to destroy your Mark’s reputation, and we’re only one step of the plan. I don’t know what the rest is, and I don’t feel like waiting around for you to get hurt finding out”
