Imagine: seeing V for the last time.
“No wait!” Your voice was a desperate cry which caused him to pause, then face towards you. “Why can’t I come with you, V look your-”
“-I know, my dear.” His voice was soft and his eyes held a look not of pity, but more of sorrow. “This fight is a fight that we might not come back from. The thought of you never returning is one that I cannot bare.” V placed his cracked and faded hand upon your check and gently stroked it. “But V, I can fight, I can look after myself.” It was a quiet plea towards him, the thought of losing him at the end of his made it hard to speak. “And as graceful as you are, I can’t allow that risk.”
“V fuck the risks, look how weak you are at the moment. I need to look after you okay, what if something happens V? What if-”
“Love seeketh not itself to please, Nor for itself hath any care, But for another gives its ease, And builds a Heaven in Hell’s despair.” He gave you a small and assuring smile and brushed a strand of hair away from your face. “I don’t know what you mean.” You weren’t a huge expert on poetry, only V truly knew what he meant sometimes. “Thank you.” A final smile was given to you before a short kiss, his lips dry and cracked. He then left you there and joined Dante and Nero. Dante gave you a small smile of pity and Griffon spoke up. “Don’t worry we’ll keep an eye on him!” You knew Griffon meant well but you all knew it was impossible to protect him from all danger, there was so much him and Shadow could do. You watched in silence as the three of them soon diverged and went their own way.
Three man left, one returned.
The man you loved, gone.
