It's kinda insane how in tune you are with Mizuki and Ena respectively. Reading through your fics and asks is soo fun and really in character!
Anyways, what are you hoping that colopale will develop/do with mizuena?
they are literally keeping me hostage it’s not a joke they live in my walls they live in my head im actually signing SOS in morse code as i type bc it’s them speaking Through me /j
okay but tbf the truth is idk how they did that, but the team in charge of niigo is like. sooo good at consistent characterization. it’s smth i encountered very very very rarely in media i consumed, especially smth as long running and with so many characters as a gacha game?? and even more mind boggling when u consider how complex they are!! it’s easy to stay consistent in characterization when u have a simple character you can build on / tack more quirks and qualities onto as the game/story progresses and who adheres to stereotypes and archetypes. but all of niigo is soo… complex, their backstories are all so nuanced and well-researched (in terms of topics, eg enmeshment, emotional incest, survivor guilt, transmisogyny, savior complex, self-objectification, ena’s relationship with her dad and art, mizuki’s dualistic jaded yet extroverted personality, her avoidance, her push and pull, her guilt, mafuyu’s dissociation, kanade’s self-harming and neglecting tendencies, gender roles, parentification and sm more holy shit) so it’s like. if ur obsessed enough with them you have dozens and dozens of hours of very much in-character interactions to dissect so. yeah
ANYWAY sorry for rambling but honestly, on that i cannot answer! from what i deduced, i believe they were written with the mizuena5 arc in mind (cellphone love story is proof to me). also they read like a stereotypical shoujo romance but anyway. yeah. so after mizuena5 i think the writers will focus the niigo storyline on FINALLY addressing kanade’s codependency (this will tie in nicely with the mafumom & mafuyu conflict, since familial enmeshment is just parent-child codependency). meanwhile, mizuki and ena will keep growing as individuals alongside each other and niigo. but after kanade’s arc is solved, who knows!! i think they game will continue after they go to uni and like. it’ll never happen but mzen roomies… grah… in any case. unless they get another arc (maybe mizuki’s fear of “getting scared again” that she mentioned in the alley starts acting up) or smth related to university, i feel like they’ll just. be as they are now. flirty, sweet, cutieful, by each other’s side, as they promised in that alley 🌅🩷
Do you think Dick Winters was a liar? In light of your own research, what's your opinion on him and his motivations for Band of Brothers?
I really don't think he lies. I think he genuinely believes his version is the only truth. In fact I think sometimes he tells more truth than we catch the first or ten times we read it.
You can see that in the exchanges with Lipton over Carentan. Lip says a very honest statement about everyone having their own perspective because they all saw it from a different view, and Dick 100% says that's wrong because there is what happened and there is documentation to prove it. Plus you were hanging upside down looking at Tab's ass with blood in your eye, thinking your balls got shot off, so what do you know? Dick, it's his version. That's the point. But let's fight about it some more because it's about the principle of the matter.
He kept documentation to refute lies and things that are not true. And from someone who loves Morning Reports for this reason- I love documentation because there is a fact stamped on that card in type to tell me what is there on that day. However, it simplifies a complex situation. It reports...and there are many ingredients to creating a situation. It's a starting point. It's where the fact needs the fiction to be fleshed out. He gives more weight to some over others, he's biased. No one will argue against that.
And we can go back and forth over the how memories are skewed over the years and how trauma alters views but the reality of it is he steps back into the role of Major Winters to tell the story of his company and it's accomplishments and in doing so he often censors or chooses to not include stories that he feels don't need to be told. He's protecting people, I often get frustrated with him for his weird standards but he does protect people. And he's judgey. Remember he was the company censor for a long time, he's gathered intel on people and has that in the back of his head too. He applies that weight to things. He's human. He can be a hater.
He also throws folks under the bus. And is kind of a bitch. But that humanity and person behind all this is exactly why I clock into WW2 time every day. I will never understand him. EVER. And the things we keep turning up, really, you can't make this shit up. I'm glad there is an ego there that compelled him to tell it, tell it like it was, keep it all. I think that as hard as he tried to keep it to the facts, his emotion does come into play a lot. It's war. It's friends. Which makes it appealing.
But there is still caring there. You care enough. And that is what sets BoB apart from a lot of the war stories that are just numbers, movements, logging deaths and casualties and win/loss. Some people he clearly didn't care for or care about.
Reading the Winters Files you come across some of the earlier letters where everyone is still trying to figure out what happened. They have Rendevous with Destiny, there is SLA Marshall's book, there is Koshimaki's book that emerges in the mid 1980 that gets everyone to sit and type up their versions and send them in. There isn't the wealth of information available that we have now and the contributions at Brecourt were overlooked. That appeared to be the major motivator for jumping in on the project.
Ambrose went into the project with an agenda. He got an idea of what his story would be because Smokey was his neighbor and Smokey hated Sobel. And that is a good story. Ambrose is a storyteller, not a historian, and that pitch was too good to pass up. Fill it in with the fact that the company itself was engaged in epic battles and also was at the Eagle's Nest! Yes, I'm sitting down for this. So, start from the beginning, you say Captain Sobel was a sadistic bastard, do tell....
Band of Brothers was just a filler between Ambrose's major projects, just a couple more interviews from vets, just don't expect it to do well. He needed something to give his publisher to fill the gap, here it is. It was a story- from a hard ass CO to the much loved Major to the legend who still won't talk to me, we have the story of Easy Co. And all these wonderful stories from the guys just read so well I might as well use them. Oh and Webster....got to use him too. Fanboy's dream!
I think the term 'curated' is better for how BoB was handled. I think Ambrose is a liar. I think Dick Winters lied about a patrol, but did so to protect and I think that's how he approached the book. I think he's got weird standards and I don't get him. But, if anything, I think he tells a lot of truth and there is something to be said about wanting all of the research, interviews, books, letters, etc to be archived that speaks to a different story that we are still unravelling today.
I think he lies to himself about things. But that's being human, that's coping, that's surviving. About BoB, however, I see too much truth in the boxes of Winter's Files to say there are lies or things covered up. Some things are kept in house and under wraps until some people on the internet start going through your shit and screaming 'Richard?!?!?' every damned day.
But, in light of all the things surrounding these men that have been destroyed via fire at NARA, via loss of their best friend who could have told the story, via their possessions being valuable they become collectibles before history....there is a lot of truth we wouldn't have without him. Especially about men like Lewis Nixon.
Hi, hello! 💜 Random ask, 'cause random asks are fun! 💜
What tropes do you like writing the most? What tropes do you always avoid in your stories? Do they differ from tropes you like or dislike reading?
Hiii!! 💜 Random asks are indeed fun!
Tropes I like writing the most are the angsty ones lol! A lot of whump, a lot of hurt/comfort, a lot of angst and drama. I enjoy my favourite characters Going Through Things, and then others acknowledging that they're going through things. Physical and/or emotional pain, trauma, I love to write it. Caretaker characters coming through with the first aid and comfort and hugs for my hurt blorbos, hell yeah.
I write a lot of gen fic, so I like exploring angsty tropes/themes with family and friendships too. I love family bonds, whether it's blood family or found family.
For the occasional ship idea/fic, I looove enemies to lovers lol!! Enemies to lovers, forbidden romances, secret relationships, mutual pining. Basically just more drama and/or angst but make in ship form lmao.
I generally don't write fluffy/really light hearted stuff. I do have a couple of fluff fics, but I usually avoid writing it simply because I'm not good at it lol, and I tend to get a little bored writing fics that are only fluff. And for my usual angsty stuff, I nearly always avoid writing character deaths.
As for reading, I feel like I'm open to reading pretty much anything as long as it involves my favourite characters/ships. I don't usually read coffee shop aus, college aus, or modern aus (for BBC Merlin), etc, but I have read a few that interested me, and I will again if I find more. I do love reading fluffy fics, even though I don't/can't write them. But I won't read character deaths of my favourite characters, unless it's temporary/a fix-it.
So I guess the only real difference is I won't write fluff, but I will read it lol. Thanks so much for the ask! 💜💜
It is sad that John couldnt find a person to make him happy in the end, he had that burst of joy with Cyn, Paul, Yoko but it didnt last. Cyn seems the least in denial too, Paul and Yoko both like to tell themselves 'John was happy with me!' Yoko is a bit more obnoxious about it sure but still. Thats a lot of pressure for one person though, I mean its impossible to make someone happy 24/7, we've all hurt our lovec ones before. John seeked the perfect angel partner and no one could live up to it
Absolutely ^^^ and we can’t forget Stuart too! (Id throw Pete Shotton in there too, but as far as im aware John had a pretty happy and healthy relationship with Pete most his life - though I haven’t read Petes book yet cause its expensive okkkkk)
ps thats me hinting for someone to let me borrow their copy of petes book
What I find to be a real shame as well is the state of confusion John left a lot of people in. I think even to this day, Paul is somewhat vexed by John, because John was so inconsistent and emotionally abusive. It seems like John could’ve had dinner with Paul one week and made polite conversation with him and everything’s normal - and then a week later Paul might see, “JOHN SAYS PAULS AN ASSHOLE AND HE HATES HIM AND NEVER WANTS TO SEE HIM AGAIN” splashed across every paper! (<< although obviously that headline is hyperbolised). And so, due to the way John was so inconsistent (swinging between expressions of love and hate so frequently), I wouldn’t be surprised if Paul, even to this day, struggles to comprehend and recognise that John loved him - and I don’t even mean “love” there strictly in a mclennon sense, because regardless of what you believe, I think we can all appreciate that they did love each other in some way; be it romantic or platonic, they loved one another.
But its just sad thinking how Paul might still think to himself: “could I have been better to John?” - and maybe he could have, but I personally think that Paul had an enormous amount of care and patience with John, and to some extent, I don’t think that there was anything Paul could’ve done to save his relationship with John. Once John started to turn on Paul and vilify him, that was the end for them; although thats not to say that their relationship couldn’t have been mended had John lived past 40, its more so to say that I think John’s mental well-being was deteriorating so badly in the late 60s, that there was no way Paul could have salvaged the relationship at that time, because John seemed determined to push him away (but also at the same time, he seemed to want to stay bound to Paul; the classic “I hate you, don’t leave me” pattern). Like you said, John was seeking a perfect partner - someone to make him feel whole, and to remove the void within him, expelling the isolation he’d known so well throughout his lifetime. And I think to some degree relationships did make him feel whole, but the problem is that the isolation is still there, underpinning your everyday life. I think also another issue with John is that he might have met someone, and they made him happy and he felt like nothing could ever spoil this feeling - until something did. Until his new “favourite person” said or did something that brought about an uncomfortable, “bad” feeling - and once his “favourite person” had done that, I think Johns mind was prone to completely vilifying and rejecting the person he had loved and idolised so much just moments ago.
I think that Cynthia was able to recognise Johns unhappiness in a way that Paul and Yoko don’t appear to be able to comprehend (although I think that they do at least understand that John was troubled), because Johns abuse towards her was more clear-cut. Anyone whose been emotionally abused knows the struggle of never really being able to accept that it was abuse, because its like, where is the line with emotional abuse? Whereas, whilst ive never been physically abused, I can imagine that it is probably easier to accept it as abuse because the line is clearer. So Cynthia I think could see that John was not happy in their relationship, but also, I think she could also infer that John was mentally unstable, and so she could recognise that this unhappiness was not her fault (<<< or at least I hope she recognised that!)
37. 49(ik what you collect i just wanna hear you talk about them:)). 57.
Ayoo, just wanted to say that the song "I'm Not Angry Anymore" by Paramore kinda reminds me of your possession au Macaque?? At least with what I've seen of him so far :D
OOOOOOOOO i like that for him. He’s just like “okay so i’m not That mad anymore but whatever it’s a vibe
Macaque doesn’t seem like an angry person imo in show, unless it comes to weakness. He gets mad at Wukong because he’s being weak by protecting MK, both in show and in my au(and in my au he’s mad because Wukong doesn’t do anything), but when all that yelling gets you nothing in return, eventually you have to find a different angle.
Macaque has a lot of rage, but mostly at the powerlessness of the situation. Stuck on a mountain with his greatest rival and 3 people he couldn’t care less about isn’t an ideal place to be, but the alternative is death. He’s frustrated that he can’t beat MK on his own, and terrified of getting killed bc MK has a vendetta against him, and if the kid everyone sings the praises of for being forgiving and kind hates him then what does that mean about Macaque as a person?
Yelling doesn’t fix it, because if he pisses off the 4 other people at the mountain that ruins his chances of rallying them together to get MK out of the way so things can go back to normal, so he turns rage into passion to get the 2 heavy hitters (Mei and Red Son) into fighting shape, and then into getting Wukong up and doing things instead of moping.
And eventually he finds out that he likes passion far better than he does rage, because rage burns but passion warms.
Passion and love are close enough, right? And, maybe he doesn’t want things to go back to normal, anymore.
(Also lowkey wanna do an animatic for possession au for with Control by Halsey bc it’s SUCH a ‘I’m possessed’ song lmao)
Hello there! Just wanted to tell you that I love your fic Love Despite so much, and have read it so many times it’s embarrassing. 😬 Could we be getting an update soon perhaps? 🙏🏼
Ahhhhh...thank you SO much for reading Love Despite and loving it!! I have my own handful of stories that I reread just like you're saying and for you to put Love Despite in that category is the highest of compliments to me. Absolutely relatable lol.
In other news, to say that I've been blocked on Love Despite would be a wild understatement. It's been driving me mad so the last thing I want you to think is that I've forgotten about it or given up on it with the show ending. I've had the next update about half done for awhile now but couldn't seem to make any of more of my outline come to life.
The good news is after writing a few other things instead I was able to get clarity on what I needed for Love Despite and I'm feeling much better about it. I would love to update it at some point this coming up weekend and I'm going to leave it there. 💛
