“It’s been a while since I wore a suit,” Zac spoke to Elliot as he fixed his eye in the mirror. He was clean shaven, freshly showered and done up for the night ahead. It was going to be the first night he went out during the week in a long time, most week nights he was at home with Elliot or Dakota and him shared the responsibility of a taking Elliot out. Leaving him behind felt wrong, but tonight was important not only for his boyfriend but himself.
Finally after months of dating Dakota was letting him see him dance. You’d probably guess that it was strange he’d yet to see the dancer perform, it was, but Zac had accepted it. It was all just a waiting game until Dakota felt ready to share his talents. At least Zac assumed he had talent - you didn’t get to the point Dakota was by falling around the stage all the time.
“Your grandma and papa is coming to get you. You’re going to have another sleep over,” he told his son as he walked over to him, scooping him up. “I know it’s not the weekend. I wont make this a regular thing,” he told Elliot, though more of a warning to himself. Elliot couldn’t simply be dismissed so he could have a life. “Why don’t we send a video to Dakota?” he suggested, getting a random babble in response.
Carrying Elliot over to the couch he kept the child on his lap and pulled his phone out. He started to record once he had both of them in frame. “Can you say “hi Dakota”?” he prompted the child. “Say hiii, you know you can. A little hi wont hurt anyone.” Elliot clapped his hands together at the mention of Dakota. “Hi! Hi hi hi hi hi hi hi!” the child chanted, giggling at himself. He was very proud that he knew the word. “Dakota?” he prompted the baby. “Hi!” he simply received in return. Zac smiled, kissing Elliot’s cheek before focusing on the phones camera.
“Hey beautiful. I’m just getting ready to say goodbye to this one, and then I’m on my way. I know you’re probably super busy but I wanted to say I’m so proud of you, no matter what happens tonight. You amaze me every day. I’ll be right there at the front cheering you on, and I can not wait to see you at the end of the show. I’ll be the guy with the biggest smile telling everyone my boyfriend was better than the rest. I love you. Break a leg - you know, figuratively, not literally.” he smiled. “Bye bye!” He said, making Elliot wave his arm. The child picked up quick enough what to do and waved both hands at the camera. He ended the video and promptly sent it to Dakota with a kiss emoji attached.
