Second YOU UNLEASHED A MONSTER. Agreeing with me in regards of the stupid love interests means I’m gonna rant....
You are right, detective small hands (I used to call him small everything. I am sure the guy has EVERYTHING small) was a bad writing decision. Not only he was bland af, and sadly the actor didn’t have his father’s talent; but the reason why he was there...I mean, someone really bought the whole “She went ‘dark’ because of what happens with Billy” thing?
But ohhh no, instead of giving Felicity a good reason for wanting to end Adrian Chase, whatever the cost may be, the writers decided to give him a love interest that was a bore! We always said Emily has chemistry even with stones, but the first scene she had with the guy, at the end of episode one, she look so uncomfortable...she couldn’t even pretend she liked him. She got better of course, after all she is a professional, but I never believed for one second she was happy with this particular storyline. (Not even get me started with the reporter...I wonder what Stephen had to do to pretend he enjoy being with her...no wait! he didn’t)
I always thought a better storyline would have been the writers focusing Felicity’s arc around Havenrock...her struggle with the fact that she had to divert that misile over a town full of innocent people; and she trying to atoned for this with Rory...only for him to be the one kidnapped by Prometheus, and getting killed. Maybe I’m being overly dramatic with this, but I think It could have worked better if she lost her shit after Rory was killed: the last survivor for Havenrock, the one person who forgave her for what she did (I know it was Darhk who left her in a position where she had to choose between two horrible options, but she did feel responsible), just to be killed by a guy who was seeking revenge against the man she loves...it would be enough to make her spiral out of control.
I love Rory, I wish he was back as he was the only member of NTA that was awesome. This is only an alternate scenario to the clusterfuck of that particular storyline.
