Finally back in Brooklyn after the madness that was Ponycon. I spent the better part of 5 days hanging out with some really awesome people. Unfortunately both my camera and my phone died on me so I barely took any pictures. Maybe that was for the best, some things you don't want a photo record of.

Until the new phone battery arrives, all I have are pictures from the drive in. New Jersey is beautiful in a strange, ugly way. This goes double for Jersey in the winter. My photos could never capture the bleak desolation of the "Garden State".

The harsh industrial landscape only reinforces the fact that all of nature seems to have died out. The biting cold reminds you that the summer months are a fleeting luxury. The universe is cold and uncaring and life is all too short. It also really makes you want to listen to some Sisters of Mercy or something like that. 10/10 would recommend.

I'm into Space and Shit...

I've always been interested in the concept of Afrofuturism and seeing more POCs (Black, Latino, Asians) in Sci-Fi and Fantasy Culture. From reading Octavia Butler, listening to artist like Outkast and Janelle Monae, and looking at art from Renee Cox and Wangechi Mutu; I have always looked at viewing the world from the beyond. I'm glad that there are more shows like the Sleeping Hallow and Gotham that show POCs in fantasy but it still isn't enough. I just wan't my black female superhero who is the lead not the side character. I want my movie. I NEED IT!!
